Applications are once again being accepted for the beta test for PlanetSide,
Sony Online Entertainment's upcoming MMOFPS (thanks PlanetSide
Universe). Word is: "Those of you who have already submitted beta
applications will not need to re-apply. If you have completed the registration
process, your (application) is already on-file and ready for consideration.."
This is echoed in the latest PlanetSide
Producer's Letter (thanks Loadedinc).
On a related, though opposite, track, Blizzard Entertainment
has announced they are closing applications for beta testing for Warcraft III:
The Frozen Throne.
There's a Devastation Preview
on GameSpot offering yet another look at Digitalo's upcoming Unreal-engine
shooter. They describe the game's bleak futuristic setting, squad mates, AI,
gunfights, weapons, graphics, physics, the special "territories"
multiplayer mode, and more. Included are a mere 61 screenshots.
Homeworld 2 Preview on
PC.IGN.Com is online, offering impressions of Relic's upcoming space
strategy sequel. They describe the story, the ships, controls and the interface,
gameplay, improvements over the original game, and more. The article is
accompanied by developer quotes, some new shots and movies on their HW2
media page. The article culminates with word that the game's current
tentative release date is this July.

has a status report on their upcoming free bonus pack for Unreal Tournament
2003, attributing its delay (though he points out there was no promised release
date to be delayed from) to work on the recent patch to close exploits, and work
on the German version of the game to avoid being placed on that country's
"Index." As before, there is no projection about when this will be
released, but he offers assurances they are working on it as fast as they can.
RPG Vault's Lethal Dreams Development Report #7
is written by Olga Saulenko of Boolat, who describes the magic system in Lethal
Dreams, their upcoming role-playing/strategy game. The article describes the
attempt to go beyond things like "banal fireballs" (they're all banal
until one is coming towards you), the schools of magic in the game, the player's
ability to learn spells from each school, and more. Also, Planning Your Pirate Island
on PC.IGN.Com offers advise from PopTop's Bill Spieth on "how to keep
your pirates satiated and happy on your tropical hideaway" in Tropico 2:

FAQ adds new info about SOE's upcoming MMOFPS. Likewise, the

appearance of aging in the upcoming Star Wars MMORPG.
The American Conquest War of Independence Tournament is now underway, though there is still time to participate if you have not
yet signed-up for what they are hoping to make "one of the biggest RTS
tournaments ever."
The Application System
for Guildhall at SMU is now underway to accept applications for this game
development curriculum. Word is: "All completed applications must be
submitted by April 22, 2003." Also, SiegeWorks.Org
is now open for business, offering support from Dungeon Siege modifications as a
personal project from Jason “Unkle Ernsie” Ernsdorff of Gas Powered Games.
Finally, the third part of the Unreal Tournament 2003 Mapping
Guide on Deviant PC has been posted.
Well we got the predicted weekend storm here, but so far, thankfully, it is all
rain. As is usually the case, this is taking a surprisingly long time to wear
away the mountains of snow around here, but slowly-but-surely they are
dwindling. I have a feeling that this is indeed going to result in a county-wide
ice-skating rink, but what are you going to do (except maybe sharpen your
skates)?
