'Unreal' game company sires studio

of Scion Studios, a new start-up developer being backed by Epic Games, to be
headed up by Michael Capps, who led development
of the Unreal-engine America's Army: Operations. Word is: "Mark
Rein, Raleigh-based Epic Games' vice president, said he's prepared to put
several million dollars into Scion. The plan is to own it outright until Scion
has developed two games and has one more under way, Rein said. Then Epic will
turn over ownership to Scion's employees."

Q&A with R. Michael Young, an assistant professor of computer science at
N.C. State University, who "is studying ways to build artificial
intelligence -- the ability of computers to act like humans -- into games so
that users get movielike stories. With such technology, for example, a game
could adjust to a player's actions and provide a different experience every time
it is played." The Q&A discusses work already being done with UT2003 on
this topic, and a bit on the possible application in future game.
A note to the manufacturers of the "pasta pot." I know perfectly well
how to use a colander for draining pasta, so you can stop showing all those
