Q&A on GameSpot talks with Tim Cain of Troika about this upcoming
D&D RPG, which was semi-revealed in a recent print magazine article
( story), and is due to be officially announced next week. Topics
include how long the project has been in development, the origins of the
project, locating a rare print copy of the original D&D module, linearity,
alignment, the use of 3rd edition rules, combat, controlling a party, NPCs,
quests, the game engine, foregoing multiplayer support, their target release
date, and more.

IGI 2 Covert Strike a UK Fan Site
has reproduced the latest installment of the IGI2: Covert Strike Newsletter,
offering news of plans for a public beta test in January, and that a
single-player demo version of Innerloop's upcoming stealthy shooter sequel is
expected to be released on January 16.
The Ensemble Studios Website now
offers manual downloads of the patch that was released Wednesday via the game's
auto-updater ( story). The version 1.02 patch is a 7 MB download,
and "is only necessary if you are having trouble autopatching the game."
The Doomsday HQ now offers a new
version 1.7.6 of the Doomsday DOOM engine. The new version features a more compatible
sound dll and a new particle flag. All the changes are listed in the changelogs
for Doomsday, jDoom,
jHeretic, and jHexen.
ATI's CATALYST Page
offers downloads of a new Catalyst 3.0 package for ATI accelerators (thanks
Rich), offering the "industry's most stable 3D acceleration software,"
new features and functions, "frequent updates and reliable customer service,
and more. FileShack (registration required) has mirrors up for Windows
XP/2000 and Windows Me/9x.
For modification authors and the like, the Unreal Technology
has the short and sweet release of the "latest .UC source code and debug .U
package files for the latest patch" for Unreal Tournament 2003 ( story).
This Hegemonia:
Legions of Iron Downloads Page features downloads of Digital Reality's
Christmas present, a multiplayer Hegemonia level called Firestorm. Word is:
"This new multiplayer level allows players to control a much larger fleet
in Hegemonia than ever before." Mirrors are available on FileShack
(registration required) and Gamer's
Hell.
NVIDIA's Gun Metal
Page offers downloads of a playable demo of Yeti Studios' Gun Metal, "a
futuristic action packed experience where you take control of the fully
transformable, prototype combat vehicle known as the Havoc Suit." This is
"one of the first available games to utilize Cg during its development,"
and it also takes advantage of some capabilities of the new Direct X 9 ( story).
A pair of updated demo releases have coincided: A second Soldiers of Anarchy Demo
has been released, and is available from 3D Gamers
and Worthplaying.
This new demo of Silver Style Entertainment's post-apocalyptic RTS game includes
the cinematic intro and a single-player mission that differs from the one in the
prior demo. Also, a newer version of the Neverwinter Nights demo is now
available. The updated sample of BioWare's D&D RPG now offers support for
multiple languages in one distribution, but also manages to shed about 75 MB
compared with the previous download. This updated demo is likewise available
from 3D Gamers.
A new
patch for Syberia is now available, updating the Canadian/European retail
edition of the Microïds' adventure game to version SP. The update addresses a
character freezing bug when playing the game with certain Intel processors. The
update is also available on 3D Gamers,
FileShack (registration required), and Worthplaying.
As a holiday gift, The
Battlefield 1942 Website is now offering a new Coral Sea multiplayer map for
Battlefield 1942, Digital Illusions' WW2 first-person shooter. Here's the story:
"The action is fast and furious as players test their piloting skills with
a total of 24 planes available on the map. The action isn't limited to
dogfighting however as each side has a carrier that they need to defend at all
costs. To win, you’ll need to sink the enemy carrier, and then fly through a
buoy that appears amidst the wreckage of the ship. Throw in some land-based AA
guns and a defensive gun or two in the mix, and you’ve got our latest recipe
for a great Battlefield 1942 holiday treat!" The client installer and
stand-alone .rfa file for servers are mirrored on 3D Gamers,
FileShack (Client) and Server

and Worthplaying.
The
Söldner Development Diary Part Two on Computer and Video Games is authored
by Teut Veivemann, creative director on Wings Simulations' upcoming online
first-person shooter. Today's topic is vehicles, and how they will be integrated

now offers downloads of the full source code for Rise of the Triad, Apogee's
seminal "2.5 D" first-person shooter. The release is dedicated to the
late William Scarboro, the ROTT programmer who passed away this past summer, and
the distribution includes some thoughts on the game from 3D Realms' Scott Miller
and MonkeyStone's Tom Hall, the game's lead designer. The release is made
under the GNU GPL, and 3D Realms still maintains their Rise of the Triad
copyrights.

offers some of their rumor-mongering, spring-boarding off Raven's recent console
help wanted ( story) to say that this might be for the console
version of Quake IV, or for an X-Men game, which might be an FPS, but it might
be an RPG. They maintain that this contradictory speculation is all based on
information from "highly-placed sources."
A new version 2.1 of Sven Co-op is now available,
updating this modification that adds cooperative multiplayer support to
Half-Life. The new version adds three new and several updated maps, "two
and a half" new monsters, a new weapon, new monster abilities/behaviors,
and more.
A new version 1.1 of the Tour of Duty
modification for Half-Life is now available (thanks Gamer's
Hell). The new version adds auto team balancing, a new prone posture, some
client memory issues have been fixed, and more.
