post to the Infogrames Forums called Next Patch Information by Kyle Peschel
has the latest on the upcoming Unreal Tournament 2003 patch, saying: "Well,
it would appear that we are in the home stretch for the next patch release. With
any luck it should be ready in less then a week (hopefully)." It goes on to
offer a detailed list of what's new and different, here's a bit on how demo
recording will be handled at this time: "Demos can be recorded either on a
server, or in single player. Recording a demo as a client in a network game is not yet supported."
Black Isle Studios' Lionheart
Page now offers downloads of a new trailer showing off gameplay from
Lionheart, their upcoming alternate-history RPG. The 9 MB movie is in
Windows Media Player format, and a mirrors are available on FileShack
(registration required) and Worthplaying.
A new beta of the dedicated server software for Counter-Strike is now available.
The new 858 KB version 4.1.1.0c of the Win32 server is available from Computer Games Online
and FileShack (registration required). Also,
a new 978 KB version 3.1.1.0c of the Linux Counter-Strike server is available
from Computer Games Online
and FileShack.com (registration required). Meanwhile,
a new version 1.25 dedicated Linux server for Team Factor is now available. The
36 MB file that allows the hosting of a server for the European version of the
game only is available from 3D Gamers
and FileShack.com (registration required).
Worthplaying has
links to download a new version 1.72 patch for World War II Online, which is a
major update to the MMO combat game. In conjunction, they also have posted word
that inactive accounts will be reactivated starting tomorrow to provide a chance
for those who have left the game to become acquainted with what's changed.
French Police Raid Vivendi HQ, Messier Home

has word that the media giant and its former CEO have been raided by French
authorities investigating accounting irregularities during his tenure. Here's a
bit: Police raided the Paris headquarters of Vivendi Universal and the
homes of its disgraced former chief Jean-Marie Messier on Thursday as part of an
investigation into the media giant's accounts.
French investigators swooped on the offices near Arc de Triomphe and Messier's
residences in and around the French capital to search for documents in a probe
into potential irregularities during the ousted chief executive's leadership.

The Devastation Preview
on GameSpot discusses progress on Digitalo's upcoming Unreal-engine
first-person shooter. They describe how different the atmosphere is in this game
compared with Unreal Tournament even though they share an engine, the enhanced
particle effects they've added to that engine, interacting with the environment,
the interface, how spawning and respawning are handled, modification support,
and more.
HomeLan Fed's Homeplanet Press Demo Impressions
offers some quick first-hand thoughts on this upcoming space sim from 3Map Games
(formerly Revolt). They describe the setting, graphics, controlling your
spacecraft, AI, and more.
There's a KnightShift
Preview on GameSpot offering hands-on impressions of Reality Pump's upcoming
"offbeat" RTS game. They discuss the game's unusual approach to the
RTS genre, the reliance on cow's milk as the game's lone resource, units, the
interface, and the general lighthearted tone.
This Massive Assault Registration
Page is accepting sign-ups for the planned one to three week concept test
for their upcoming 3D global domination strategy game. Thanks Gamer's
Hell, where they offer some further demo-related news, as they have posted a
playable demo of Ultra Assault, "a great 'retro' shoot 'em up featuring 'configurable
difficulty, dynamic music, stunning graphics and more'."
Generals Xtreme has
posted a new 60 minute video showing off gameplay from C&C Generals, divided
into six parts for easier downloads. Also, there's a
Postal 2 Trailer on Gamersclick (registration required) showing off the game's napalm factory
and some "escape gameplay." The file is mirrored on Computer Games Online.
Finally, a new Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb trailer is available, showing
off the Xbox version of Indy's upcoming cross-platform adventures. The file has
been posted in high
and low
resolution modes on the Xbox site and mirrored on Gamer's
Hell.
Why Nintendo Won't Grow Up
(thanks Mike Martinez) is a Wired article discussing the following: "Shigeru
Miyamoto invented the modern videogame. Now the industry he founded is moving
from kid stuff to cultural force. Can the Disney of the game world connect with
his inner adult?" Also, Monkeystone Games
has announced a limited edition "Monkeystone Holiday Gift Pak" that
includes a version of Hyperspace Delivery Boy autographed by John Romero and Tom
Hall.
LANarchy in London is
a LAN party planned for mid-January, where all the proceeds will be donated to
charity. The charity involved is Help A London Child, and word is that expenses
for the venue, food, etc., will be donated, and will not impact the donation.
Next Year's Game is a competition to
"create the most visually stunning, technically adept, fun and innovative
game, game demo or game prototype by the competition's close." The game
must use the Auran Jet 3D engine, and
over $100,000 worth of prizes have been set aside for the winning entries. Also,
LucasArts Embraces
Modding Community on TheForce.Net (thanks Ant) is the press release
announcing the opening of a LucasArts'-sanctioned repository for mods, maps, and
files for their games at lucasfiles.com.
30 years since last men on moon
(thanks Mike Martinez) is a sad story for me to read. Like many kids my age, my
dream growing up was to be an astronaut visiting the moon and distant planets
and such, and I fear that unless they get back on the stick here, time is
running out for me to start my career as a star voyager. Oh well, they still
play pro football, so at least my dream of joining the NFL can remain intact.
