The Downloads Page on the GI Combat
Website is now offering a new version 1.02d patch for Freedom
Games' World War II RTS game. Word is: "The new 102d patch requires a clean
install of GI Combat. It will not install over the earlier patch 101. Please
also note: Back up your saved games folder before reinstalling." A complete
list of what's new and changed can be found in the read
me.
Strategy First
has released a multiplayer demo for Prince of Qin, allowing the opportunity to
sample Object Software's historical Chinese RPG. The 221 MB demo is "based
on the persistent world of the POQ Battle.Net version and is played for free,"
and can be downloaded from FileShack (registration required)
and FilePlanet (registration required).
Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford updated
his .plan with more on the announcement that Counter-Strike Condition Zero development
had been picked up by Ritual Entertainment (following story). Here's the update:
Gearbox Software suspended development of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
in July of 2002. Counter-Strike: Condition Zero introduces single player gaming
to the world's #1 online action game. Valve Software has overseen development
since July. Gearbox is aware of and endorses Ritual Entertainment's involvement.
After developing several Half-Life games, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Tony
Hawk Pro Skater 3 and James Bond 007: Nightfire, Gearbox Software is refocusing
its efforts on future technology and more interesting and innovative game play.
Gearbox Software will be discussing Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC and our
vision for the future of interactive entertainment at The CPL's December 2002
event in Dallas, Texas.

Valve Software sends along the announcement that development of Counter-Strike:
Condition Zero, the upcoming Counter-Strike game with a greater emphasis on
single-player play, has shifted gears from Gearbox Software, and is now underway
at Ritual Entertainment. Here's the entirety of the announcement: Counter-Strike:
Condition Zero Development Moves to Ritual
The primary development of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (CS:CZ) has moved to
Ritual Entertainment. Counter-Strike: Condition Zero introduces single player
gaming to the world's #1 online action game. Representatives from Ritual and
Valve will be presenting the latest on CS:CZ during a seminar at the The CPL's
upcoming Counter-Strike Championships in Dallas, Texas.
A demo version of Neverwinter Nights is now available, allowing a sample of
BioWare's D&D RPG for a whopping 390 MB download. The file is available from
3D Gamers, FilePlanet
(registration required), FileShack
(registration required), Gamer's
Hell, and Worthplaying.
According to 3D Gamers, the download is so large because it includes the prelude
to the single-player campaign.
A new patch for Medal of Honor Allied Assault Spearhead is now available
updating EA's WW2 shooter expansion to version 2.11. The 55 MB file is mirrored
on 3D Gamers, FileShack
(registration required), Gamer's
Hell, and Worthplaying.
Not much in the way of detail about what's new or fixed is available.
A new American Conquest "mini-patch" is now available, updating GSC
Game World's strategy game to version 1.45u, though the version will still be
listed as just 1.45 within the game. The update offers enhanced networking and
AI among other things. The file is available from 3D
Gamers, FileShack
(registration required), and Gamer's
Hell.
The Win32 game source code for Return to Castle Wolfenstein modification authors
that was pulled from distribution yesterday ( story) has been
re-released in its proper form, and is now available via 3D
Gamers and FileShack
(registration required).

Page offers downloads of a movie trailer showing off EgoSoft's upcoming X
sequel. Meanwhile, MCV Online
has word (in German) that the hunt continues for a publisher for the title,
which now carries a March/April 2003 release date (thanks YiYas).

Well, we actually got quite a bit of snow around here, somewhat surprising in
spite of how it was predicted, I guess that's a commentary on the general
accuracy of weather reports. The buzz in the gaming news world these days seems
to be the lack of buzz in the gaming news world these days. I was wondering if
this would happen when November was so much busier than usual with patches, gold
announcements, and demo releases, and it does indeed seem like the holiday
season has moved a bit earlier than in years gone by. I'll take advantage of the
slowness to take MrsBlue to a doctor's appointment this afternoon, and I plan to
put my newly Wi-Fi enabled laptop to the test at the Starbucks near our destination and see
if I can manage to update from there.
Turns out that $977 mouse yesterday was for a 50 pack, which is not nearly as
fun, but does make a bit more sense.
