Out of the Blue

It's an interesting development in the saga of the leaked DOOM III alpha that it's become a topic for public discussion thanks to John Carmack's Slashdot post on the topic (story). Long time readers will recognize that until it crossed that threshold, our long-standing policy against making reports that in any way could encourage software piracy made this a non-story, but it was probably about time that this came to light, as reports of the leak had become so widespread that not discussing it sort of became like not discussing an elephant in the middle of the room. Leaks like this are no great thrill for me personally... besides not being into the piracy thing, I just don't enjoy playing with works-in-progress, preferring to experience the unadulterated experience of the finished product as it comes in the box (or in certain cases a couple of patches after).
