John Carmack at QuakeCon 2002
on Gamer's Ammo offers an .mp3 audio recording of John Carmack's talk with
the attendees, where the id Software lead programmer discusses id's technology,
taken from the Team Sportscast Network's
streaming coverage of the event. The file is a 16 MB download, and playback runs
a bit longer than an hour. John
Carmack Speaks on GameSpy.com is their analysis of this speech, and GameSpy.com's
DOOM III Impressions offers more of their thoughts on seeing the
demonstration of the game at the show. Likewise, GameSpot's
QuakeCon 2002 Enemy Territory impressions has opinions of the demonstration
of the upcoming Wolfenstein expansion pack, and GameSpot's
QuakeCon 2002 Elite Force II updated impressions describes the showing of

Of Men, Monsters and Machines
on PC.IGN.Com offers an illustrated look at some of the units in Age of
Mythology, as presented by Bruce Shelley, lead designer on Ensemble's
upcoming RTS game.
Spellbound Studios and Wanadoo Edition have opened the wooden gates to the official Robin Hood: the Legend of Sherwood site, showcasing their upcoming isometric tactical combat game (thanks ToTheGame). The site comes in English, German and French incarnations and offers plenty of information on the game's premise, backstory and main characters, as well as randomly chosen screenshots (but strangely, no gallery to see them all), some wallpapers and music clips, and more.
Fans disappointed in word that the future of Outcast II is in serious doubt with
developer Appeal embroiled in bankruptcy proceedings ( story) can
find encouragement in a post on Outcastii.net
describing the possibility that Elsewhere Entertainment,
formed a couple of years ago by one of the cofounders of Appeal, is considering
Project Alpha, called "a conceptual 'continuation' of Outcast 1." On a
similar topic, a post on Outcast2 - Das deutsche Portal
(thanks Shacknews) by former Appeal
designer Carlo Fabricatore, describes the shutdown of Appeal, offers apologies
for the fate suffered by the Outcast II project, corroborating the reports on
how all this played out, which has not yet been officially announced or
confirmed.
The Star Wars:
The Clone Wars Q&A on GameSpyDaily discusses Pandemic Studios' upcoming
Star Wars game, discussing vehicles that will be featured, multiplayer support,
and more. There are impressions of DOOM II running on the GBA on GameSpot
based on seeing the game in action at QuakeCon. There are Kingdom
Under Fire: the Crusaders screenshots & movies on Xbox.IGN.Com.

FAQ adds some info about two more professions in the upcoming Star Wars
MMORPG, discussing the Combat Engineer profession, as well as the Merchant
profession, for those whose dream it is to sell Han Solo his vests.

I haven't gotten to Denny's (or a Denny's clone) for my QuakeCon tribute yet,
but I realize there is another aspect of the event that I am able to enjoy
without being there, it's our remarkably Dallas/Mesquite-like weather (again our hats-off
for the resolve they show in sticking to their sweaty guns and holding the
convention in August every year), as it's expected to reach 92° here today. Now
if I only had one of the web lawnmowers from the links below, since it's really
too hot for that sort of thing, though on the bright side, it's so hot we may
just get a brush fire to take care of this by itself.
