I hate dog stories, just give me the nutty
links. Hudson-Hater™ technology brought to you by PETsMART.
Sadly Chucky, the Alaskan Malamute that lived next door, passed away last
week. Actually, while this is indeed sad, he was at the quite advanced age of
18, and it seemed obvious he was in some form of discomfort because near the end
he had taken to plaintively barking a good deal of the time (as in just about
all the time, including all night-I don't know if he even took sleep breaks).
What's interesting is that since Chucky's passing, Hudson the wonder dog has
suddenly gone from being a dog who barks on occasion, to quite the vigorous
yapper... in the yard, out the windows... nothing to the degree of Chucky's
constant barrage, but a remarkable increase nonetheless. What's worse (but also
another interesting aspect of this situation) is that Huddy's friend Molly, a
spaniel that lives across the street, has taken up the exact same behavior, and
to even more of an extreme, including a three-hour yapping session at 4:00 AM
this morning (I'm sure Molly's family was ecstatic about that). What I'm trying
to figure out here (like there's any real way to investigate) is whether they
are communicating with each other, declaring their supremacy over the
neighborhood now that the king is gone, filling the void of the silence
the king left behind, mourning his passing, or what? Maybe we need a visitation
from the creepy pet psychic from Animal Planet to work this out.
