Out of the Blue

As noted in the date bar, it was on this day in 1996 that Quake was released. As I have also noted on similar such anniversaries in the past, this, like so many of these occasions, leaves me with paradoxical feelings of surprise that this was so long ago as well as how recently this was. On this occasion I'd like to commemorate some dear departed websites that were the cornerstones of the Quake community back then: Aftershock, Mr. Wolf's Quake Den, Redwood's, Quake Will Rule the Cosmos (which was always my personal favorite), and the latest addition to the casualty list, Stomped, as the old Quake Stomping Grounds hasn't actually gone away, but just serves as a web presence for their Minneapolis-based LAN center.

Story of the Day: Large Asteroid Narrowly Misses Earth. Thanks Jesh.
Wild Science: Printing Computer Chips by Laser. Thanks again Jesh.
Weird Science: Report Names 'Sweatiest' U.S. City. The rare trifecta for Jesh.
