Acidstorm Entertainment has released the first in-game screenshot of Colonies, their cyberpunk multiplayer FPS in early development.
- Grand Prix 4
Two dozen new Grand Prix 4 screenshots are online at Gamer's Hell, showing more from the upcoming Formula 1 racing simulation by Geoff Crammond and Simergy.
Purge Interview on RPG Vault talks to Richard Cheung, project leader on this online action RPG in development at Freeform Interactive. Richard discusses the game's premise, futuristic setting, character system, the eight different player classes, magic versus technology, the friendly NPCs, their use of the Lithtech Talon engine, the inventory system, plans for mod support, and the current state of the project. The Westlake Interactive
Website has word that the Mac version of Max Payne has gone gold. Mac Payne will be heading towards store selves July 16.
Arkane Studios has announced that the German edition of Arx Fatalis has gone gold, and this first-person role-playing game should appear on stores shelves in that country towards the end of the month, while the international editions are expected in September. Thanks YiYas for the tip.
GameSpot UK's Sudden Strike II
Preview takes a look at the upcoming RTS sequel using the new playable
Japanese campaign to highlight the sequel's differences from the original, as
well as its similarities. They offer brief impressions of gameplay and describe
a couple of other aspects that have changed, like the new difficulty levels. A dozen new
but low-res screenshots is included.
BonusWeb serves up a video of UFO: Aftermath, showing the squad-based tactical combat game by ALTAR Interactive in motion. The ShakyCam video comes in regular (6.1 MB) and high (21.0 MB) DivX resolutions, and features nearly two and half minutes of good quality footage from the strategy overview mode and the ground-level tactical mode.
There is a new movie of Tomb Raider: the Angel of Darkness on Computer and Video Games, showing more from the third-person action adventure sequel in the works at Core Design. The movie is available in two quality versions (at the same resolution) in Windows Media Player format, and sports some two and a half minutes of action-packed, largely cinematic footage setting the game's premise.
Got Game Entertainment has released a playable demo of Tsunami 2265, the third-person anime-inspired action game by Italian developers Prograph Research that is already out in Europe and is slated for an August 5 release in North America. The demo requires a 55.7 MB download and allows you to try out a part of full game with both the cut-scene and shoot 'em up sections that make up the gameplay.

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Goes Gold -- Street Date Announced is the press release announcing that Blizzard's eagerly anticipated 3D role-playing RTS is complete, and the game is expected to "be available at retail outlets worldwide in multiple languages beginning on July 3, 2002." Following on last night's Windows releases ( story), id Software and Activision have now also released the Linux version 1.33 patch for Return to Castle Wolfenstein and the Game of the Year Map Pack so that server admins can upgrade as well. As usual, we have a local copy with mirrors of the Linux patch (7.4 MB) as well as the GotY Map Pack (49.5 MB).

that Changed the World: DOOM on Computer and Video Games is a look back at
id Software's seminal first-person shooter as work continues on DOOM III, the
game's upcoming remake. The article offers recollections of the first impressions
the game made, some background on the team at id at the time, and some
development stories from some of the former members of that team, quoting John
Romero, Tom Hall, and Sandy Petersen, who describe why some things were done the
way they were, and provide reflections on the finished product.

MacSoft Agrees to Publishing Rights for Neverwinter Nights for the Macintosh; Infogrames Label to Launch Title Worldwide Fall
2002 is the press release relating how plans for a Mac version of
Neverwinter Nights will be handled saying the D&D RPG "is scheduled to
ship in the summer of 2002, only two months after the PC version." This is
actually bad news for Mac owners looking forward to this project, as the Neverwinter Nights FAQ
offers the (failed) promise that "we are planning a simultaneous
PC/Macintosh/Linux release for Neverwinter Nights, with all three
versions to be included in a single box."
There's a James
Bond 007: Nightfire Preview on Computer and Video Games with impressions of
the upcoming Bond adventure in its PS2 incarnation. Also, there's a
B.C. preview on XenGamers with a look at B.C., a third-person
action/adventure game, in development "for the past two years under the
guidance of Peter Molyneux."

offers a new installment in their Siege University

is used in Neverwinter Nights."
- TACTICAL Soft offers
the demo release of A.R.S.E.N.A.L "Extended Power" (mirrored on WORTHPLAYING)
looking like a hex-type wargame, but described as "a real time strategy
game based on 2nd World War units." The demo is a 35.5 MB download...
- HomeLan Fed has
once again reproduced NPDTechworld's
list of the top 10 best selling games, this time out for the week ending
June 1, with a list that's 20% Sims, 20% Zoo Tycoon, 20% Star Wars, and 20%
WW2 shooters (I won't try and find a way to lump Harry Potter and GTA3)...

Sports fans disappointed in the lackluster performance of the Nets in their role
of being fed to the lions versus the Lakers in the NBA finals and boxing mavens
mortified by their sport's insistence in trying to leverage its popularity on
Mike Tyson will be pleased to read: Holmes coming out of retirement to fight Esch,
announcing the next big boxing comeback. That's right, 52-year-old Larry Holmes
versus 5200-lb "Butterbean," with the whole mess naturally scheduled
to be broadcast on pay-per-view. Soon stuff like this, reality TV, and the
Ultimate Fighting Championships really are going to give way to gladiatorial
combat or The Running Man, or some such thing.
