BattleTech: 3025 Preview

PC.IGN has posted a preview of Multiplayer BattleTech: 3025, a title which Electronic Arts acquired when it purchased Kesmai and will be part of EA's EA.com platinum service, which also includes Majestic, a very different sort of online game. Regardless, this preview features quotes from Jefferson Dong, EA's marketing manager on the game, along with nine new screenshots.

Battle Realms Details

Battle Realms: The Little Things is an update at PC.IGN by Liquid Entertainment's Peter Bartholow that contains information about their upcoming RTS. Peter explains how the game handles resource management and unit construction (or lack thereof), how they are handling unit upgrades, the strategic importance of terrain and more.

Starfighter Preview

Finally, PC.IGN has also posted a preview of Star Wars: Starfighter, LucasArts' upcoming space-combat game that's being ported over from the Playstation 2. The preview confirms that the game will be feature-exact with its console counterpart, and contains gameplay details but no new screenshots.

Far West is a 3D real-time strategy game obviously set in the Wild West, and the official site has more information on the game, while the Spieleflut preview (which you may like to read via Babel Fish) offers the first seven screenshots and a handful of concept images.

Quake III Arena v1.29h Beta Released

As promised (story), id Software's Robert Duffy updated his .plan to announce that the version 1.29h patch for Quake III Arena is now available, albeit only for Win32. The file is available from their ftp server (25.5 MB) and you should also be able to upgrade via the auto-updater. Here is a local copy with mirrors, and here are the details:

The 1.29h point release is up. You can auto-update to it from 1.29f or 1.29g or grab the whole sha-bang from our ftp. The Linux version will be up asap. This is STILL a beta, we plan to go final with it after QuakeCon.

Changes

- Fixed Server exploit
- Fixed Mouse wheel
- Fixed NT 4.0 Sound
- FPS Boost
- in_mouse set to -1 will provide 1.17ish sensitivity, in_mouse set to 1 will provide current sensitivity

Quake III Arena Mac Status

id Software's Graeme Devine updated his .plan to explain why last week's Quake III Arena patch release didn't include any Mac versions (story). Here's the deal:

1.29f Mac is 100% compatible with 1.29g, the fixes are almost all WIN32 related input/sound etc. There are no networking changes, QVM or othersuch evil things we've done in the pass to force everyone to upgrade. There's a forthcoming build that addresses the 1.29g build and that will be made available on all platforms, but meanwhile there will be nada zip zero no build of 1.29g for the Mac because we've already moved on from 1.29g.

And besides, we're working on DOOM. :-)

The lucky folk at Gamesmania recently paid a visit to LucasArts, and they have posted a write-up of the games they saw there. More information on the 121 patch may be released by this weekend, and would be based on whether or not they can address high-priority issues like "CTD problems using Shift-Escape, 'blue sky', and army base capture side switch" and medium priority items like: "bad vehicle lists, Russian flags and non-capturable facilities, hanging at spawn screen, and 'purple sky' problems."
