Interview with Savant and Drysart talking with the producer and associate producer
of Online Games at Netamin.com. The main topic of conversation is Fallen Age,
discussing the reasons this MMORPG was put on hold (story).
Thanks RPGvault.
Robert Duffy followed up on the update mentioned in the story after this one
with another
.plan update saying that he has indeed found a problem with the full Win32
version of the latest Q3A update, describing what causes it, and what the
ramifications are until a revised patch can be uploaded, which won't happen
before tomorrow night:
A
wee hours .plan update by id Software programmer Robert Duffy has word that
of a possible issue with the full Win32 installer for the latest Quake III Arena
patch (story). If you are experiencing a problem like the one he
describes, take comfort in knowing it's being investigated (and if you're not
experiencing a glitch, you probably stopped reading by now anyway). Here's the
briefer than my introduction update:
Mad Doc Software and Activision have opened a Star Trek Armada II teaser site, introducing their upcoming space-based strategy sequel. Currently the site only offers some terse game details, as well as a gallery with eight new screenshots.
Japanese distributor Imagineer has posted a version 1.4 patch for Giants: Citizen Kabuto, bringing the Japanese edition of Planet Moon's three-class third-person action game in sync with the English version released last month (story).
The first Aliens Vs. Predator 2 developer diary is online at GameSpy.com this morning, and kicking things off is lead designer William Westwater, who talks about the multiplayer modes in Monolith's three-way first-person shooter. Topics include balancing the gameplay styles of three such diverse species, how the new Evac mode pans out, and more.
Haven 'o Frags offers a new release of Action Half-Life Armoury for download. AHL Armoury is described as a "program to manage the multitude of AHL replacement weapon models," and this release adds sprite and vgui support and a built-in 3D model viewer.
As promised, Dynamix has released a public beta demo of TRIBES 2 at the official Tribes 2 Central Download site, offering you a chance to try out their multiplayer shooter in case you haven't bought the full game yet. This demo weighs in at 78.4 MB, includes one CTF and one Hunters map, and is not supported by Sierra. Thanks PlanetTribes. Update: Mirrors are available at 3D Gamers and FilePlanet (registration required).
PC.IGN managed to get a look at Jedi Outcast: Jedi Knight II, and so they have
written an updated preview of
the game. The preview doesn't contain any new screenshots, but it is based
on a look at a more recent build of the game, and so it has some new gameplay
details.
Saying that the PC version is "significantly better in virtually every
single respect" than its Playstation 2 counterpart, PC.IGN has posted a
preview of Red Faction. The preview goes into detail about how it's a major
step up from the already-available PS2 game, and also provides 24 new screenshots.
On a related note, a few more new shots (and a lot of the same ones) can
be found at GameSpot.
Yeah, yeah, we've heard it before (story), but an update at the
official Total War site says that the Shogun: Total War expansion The Mongol
Invasion will be released in Europe on August 17th, and the Warlord Edition,
which includes the add-on and the original game, will be released in North America
on August 7th. The Mongol Invasion will be available for purchase by itself
in the US exclusively at Electronic Arts' online store. Also of note is the
news that next month's issue of PC Gamer UK has a preview of Total War's unannounced
next game.
The second part of the
Q&A with Gas Powered Games' Sarah Boulian at The Land of Dungeon Siege
is online today. This piece contains a couple of questions about level design
for this upcoming RPG.
PlanetDiablo has updated their
Diablo II items database with more items from the recently released add-on
Lord of Destruction. And of course, another week has gone by, and so the
official Star Wars Galaxies FAQ has been updated.
PlanetXbox'
Bounty Hunter First Look contains some new screenshots and details on this
PC and Xbox title from Warthog. Xbox's
"Shrek" steals Microsoft show is a Reuters story at News.com that
says this Xbox game of flatulence wowed a crowd of Wall Street analysts. In-game
movies from Raven Blade, the canceled RPG from Retro Studios are available over
at Cube.IGN. Also at Cube.IGN
is an in-depth look at the Gamecube
controller, complete with video of it in action. Xbox.IGN has a
hands-on preview of Obi-Wan online, looking at LucasArts' Xbox-exclusive
title.
id Software's Paul Jaquays updated
his .plan with information and an e-mail address to send in-production Q3A
maps which he will then critique during his seminar at QuakeCon. Also, Three-Axis
Animation: The Hardships of Animating Three-Dimensional Characters in Real Time
Games is an article at Gamasutra on the art of 3D character animation.
First off, I'd like to thank everyone that responded to my request for Star
Trek games last week (story). I wound up picking up Deep Space
Nine - The Fallen, which I've been enjoying quite a bit. The game has the most
unnecessarily complicated config of any game since Jedi Knight, but I eventually
got used to it (after rebinding about 40 keys). After I've blown through this
(and Max Payne and possibly Anachronox) I'm going to dip back into the Star
Trek well and try again...I've got Starfleet Command around here somewhere,
so I may try that out, although many people recommended Starfleet Command Volume
II, so I might pick that up instead. I checked out Armada last weekend and it
looked pretty cool, so I might look into that too.
QuakeCon is in two weeks, and alas this will be only the second one I haven't been to. I didn't attend the first one (which was basically #quake Con) but I've made it a point to attend it every year since then, even the year when it was technically The CPL event. But this year the Blue Jet is staying in its hangar, as Blue, Frans and myself are all unable to attend. Regarding the contest: I haven't made the drawing yet, as I'm still waiting for the final list of names from GameSkins. But, I have stopped taking entries (only purchases before last Monday will count) and I'll be announcing the winners on Monday or Tuesday. Link of the Day: Star Dudes. The Reader's Digest condensed version of Star Wars (thanks antonye). Flash required. Story of the Day: Woman Sues over 'Toy Yoda' (FOXNews.com). Thanks theAntiELVIS. Image of the Day: Glow in the dark mice (Forbes.com). Thanks WarPig[doh]. |
