GameSpot has posted a
new preview of Real War, the upcoming RTS from Rival Interactive that's
based on an actual military simulation system. The preview doesn't contain much
in the way of new information about the game, but it does feature 16 new screenshots.
Also new at GameSpot this evening is a
preview of Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza, based on what they were shown at a
recent Sierra press event. This is the same event that other sites recently
attended, and this preview contains the same 10 screenshots that already appeared
elsewhere last week.
There is a Black Moon Chronicles: Winds of War movie trailer on RPG Vault, showing off this upcoming isometric MMORPG by Vircom and Cryonetworks. The trailer is a hefty 63.4 MB download in high-res (640x480) QuickTime format, offering a bit under three minutes of in-game and cinematic footage that introduces the game's premise and features, and shows its cartoon-like visuals that are similar to the French graphic novels on which the game is based.
The official Game of Death site ( Flash-only) has recently opened its doors, showcasing this third-person horror action adventure by German developer BURNS Entertainment that little has been heard of since it was unveiled last Fall ( story). The site offers a brief premise, six new screenshots, information on German horror movie director Joerg Buttgereit on whose works the game is apparently based, and two pre-rendered movie trailers. The Animated Death clip is a 5.8 MB download in MPEG format showing some 40 seconds of lurid footage, while the 3D-Teaser offers some three minutes of Windows Media Player footage that seems more related to the game's backstory, for the price of a 7.5 MB download. Thanks Gameplex.ch for the tip.
Italian gaming site Internet Gaming Zone has a
Q&A with Gleb Vlasenko of Snowball Interactive online, talking with
him about their upcoming RPG Fatherdale. Gleb talks about why the game doesn't
use a free-floating 3D camera, their decision to use a real-time rather than
turn-based combat system and more. The Q&A is available in English
as well as the site's native Italian.
Gone Gold reports that Conquest: Frontier Wars has, indeed, gone gold, and this space-based real-time strategy game by Fever Pitch Studios and Ubi Soft is expected on store shelves by August 18.
A story on Computer and Video Games
has the announcement Worms Blast, the long-rumored 3D installment in the long
running wacky series of Worms games. The game's official unveiling comes on the
occasion of Ubi Soft's announcement that they have obtained world-wide rights to
publish the game for PC, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance and GameCube systems.
In addition to the change from 2D to 3D, Worms Blast will also be the first
real-time iteration in what has been up to now a turn-based series. Gaming Age
has posted a story with the same batch of details, but they also have a couple
of shots of 3D Worms models to decorate theirs.
A report on The Adrenaline Vault
has the news that Shadows of Reality, the planned Unreal-engine first-person RPG
that intended to follow the lead of such thinker-shooters as System Shock and
Deus Ex, has been shelved by developer Nevolution, citing personnel losses and
lack of funding as the cause. They quote Nevolution's Steve Adkins on the
subject of whether the project can be revived: "Maybe when the
game industry is a little more favorable to original ideas and not sequels, we
will see what we can do."
Italian site Multiplayer.it has posted another pair of short Max Payne movie clips, showing off some gameplay footage from Remedy's imminent third-person action game. Volume 6 of GameSpy.com's
TORN Developer Diaries is now online, again penned by the tag-team of Brian
Mitsoda, Chad Nicholas, and Scott Warner (or as the intro puts it: "Black
Isle's famous threesome"). Brian's entry describes his efforts at crafting
the dialogue for the upcoming RPG, which may be taxing his creative writing, as
he goes on to solicit suggestions for the next diary, asking that they be posted
to the BIS message boards. Scott
discusses progress on the "initial makeup of creatures and items"
trying to offer the fewest details in the most words possible, and Chad's makes
that one seem topical, but they are not the one's looking for help with their
next entries, so maybe that's the idea.
Forward Lookers on GameSlice
takes a look ahead at five upcoming games after checking them out at this year's
E3, way back when. Pointing out that "While some of these games received a
lot of acclaim at E3, a few of these seemed to get lost in the mix," the
preview looks at Majestic, Sims Online, Freedom Force, Star Wars Galaxies, and
Republic.

A new beta 4 of the Night's Edge mod for Unreal Tournament

bots shooting through each other at extremely close ranges." Also included
in the new release is a mutator to add variants on the Night's Edge weapons to
regular UT games.
The debut release of the Warped

That 'I send this file' worm seems worse every day, 80% of my personal mail this
morning was of that variety. They'd be easy enough to filter straight to the
trash since they all have the same body text, but I have to admit a strange
fascination with the random subject lines (I think my
favorite of today was "Apparatus Diagram")... it's probably just me. Meanwhile, I imagine at
least one person out there has had an important email ignored by someone, having
sent along something like a resume to a friend asking them to take a look at it,
only to have it promptly deleted.
Happy birthday Monica Lewinsky (thanks Chris
Morris), esses (wherever you are), and Imus in the Morning.

funny.
