MythWolfAge.com
has posted a couple of ShakyCam movies of Myth III: The Wolf Age shot off the
monitor during MacWorld in the big apple. One demo shows off a little fun with
demolitions, while the second demonstrates the joys of taunting. The movies are
in QuickTime format. Note that at least for the moment, the link on their
website for the second movie mistakenly points at the first one, and you can fix
this by changing the part of the filename that says demo_1 to demo_2 until
that's cleared up.
There's a
Ghost Recon Hands-On Preview (Fan Boy Edition) on Pie's Tactics (thanks Stomped)
recapping a visit to the studios of Red Storm Entertainment in North Carolina to
check out the upcoming installment their series of tactical first person
shooters inspired by the work of suspense thriller author Tom Clancy. Included
are comparisons to what they saw of the game at E3, further general impressions,
and photos from the get-together.
There's a new daily update on the Anarchy Online
website, where AO programmer Enno Rehling gives the good news that server
stability has greatly increased, and the bad news that players are still getting
disconnected. He offers hope that the next client patch will improve that
situation, while stating that addressing memory problems is currently their
"number one priority," though there is no ETA yet on a fix.
Gameplex interviews Roland Friedrich
talking with the director on Internal Pain, an upcoming science fiction action
game in the works at Slovakian developer Fantasy Studio. Topics include the
game's storyline, the four races from which players will choose, weapons and
gadgets, enemies, and more. The Q&A includes some previously posted
screenshots and movie, and is also online in
the site's native German.
In spite of the impressive-sounding media blackout notice on the Arithmetic
Studios news page, the math-happy folks have updated their W.A.T.E.R.
- Blood Runs Deep teaser page and the Blood Runs Deep
website with a blurb on the game's storyline and a second character image
(thanks Voodoo Extreme).
The latest edition of the GameSpy.com MechCommander 2
diary is the final installment in the series, since work on the game has
concluded. It seems that postpartum is a better way to characterize such an
update than the typical title of postmortem, since a game's completion and
release seems more akin to its birth than death anyway, but besides offering a
different take on the title, the report by Mitch Gitelman (while indeed offering
an analysis of "some things that went right and some that went wrong,"
in the game's production), also admits to being less forthcoming, as he avoids
airing any "dirty laundry," focusing rather on how the team came
together much like a family during production.
TROIKA
Connection has posted an
edited log of a recent chat session with Troika Games talking with several members
of Troika (yes, there are more than three of them) in a recent IRC shindig.
Topics include Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura, their imminent RPG,
though attempts to get them to discuss their current project proved fruitless.
In further developer chat developments, the official
Earth and Beyond website has the plans for this month's IRC session with the
team at work on this upcoming space epic, which is scheduled for Wednesday (July
25) at 9:00 PM EDT, on the topic of Core Skill Details. Finally, the
official Emperor: Battle for Dune website has news that this Thursday (July
26), Chris Longpre, producer on the recently released Dune game, will be the focus of a
chat session to discuss its progress. The time listed is 3:00 PM, but there's no
time zone mentioned (as of this writing at least), but it's a good guess that
it's PDT, which would make it 6:00 PM here on the east coast US.
A Tale in
the Desert Alpha Journal, Part 1 on Massive Multiplayer.Org offers thoughts
about the state of A Tale in the Desert after participating in a round of closed
alpha testing of the game. The diary offers a brief account of the
getting-to-know-you state the author experienced, just getting accustomed to
what this combat-free MMORPG will offer.
Raven Blade Killed, Retro Lays off 26
on Cube.IGN.Com has word of the cancellation and personnel moves, quoting
Nintendo as saying "It was a business decision and clearly based on the
need to focus on Metroid and ensure it's a great game, and also on the resources
that would have been needed to finish Raven Blade." Also, DVD GameCube Release, Price
on Cube.IGN.Com has details on the "Fusion" DVD-player / GameCube
hybrid. Nintendoing right along, Miyamoto Controller Demo
on Cube.IGN.Com talks about the design choices for the GCN controller with
legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Also, Xbox.ign.com's Rated X
admits it's a rumor column, but also asserts that their report is "100%
true" that Japanese purchasers of the PS2 hard drive have learned that in
order to use it with FFX, the game must be installed on the drive, the accuracy
of this report subsequently confirmed by The-Magicbox.
The debut release of The DeFRaG
is now available, this is a solo play modification for Quake III Arena that
presents the player with various runs and challenges for which the opponent is the clock. As they point out, in addition to the competition within the
mod, The DeFRaG also acts as a training aid to help players improve their general Quake
III Arena skills.
A new version 1.3 of the Gloom modification for Quake II is now available on planetgloom.com, offering teamplay competition between humans and spiders, hopefully reminiscent
enough of a certain science fiction film series to be evocative, without being
familiar enough to be Foxed (shut down). Word on the site is that an updated installer will
be posted sometime today to address a few glitches with missing skins,
improperly linked models, and a few missing sounds.
Part two of the Gangsters 2
guide on Gangsters2.com is now online. Also, two of the three
FAQ/Walkthroughs on the GameFAQs
Anachronox page have been updated. Also, the FAQ/Walkthrough and the
Companion Guide on the Thief
II: The Metal Age page on GameFAQs have likewise been updated. Finally, the
FAQ/Walkthrough on the
GameFAQs Z: Steel Soldiers page has also been updated.
There's an
Urban Terror Interview on Stomped talking with the team at Silicon Ice
Development to discuss their Urban Terror
modification for Quake III Arena. The Q&A proudly states that in
addition to the project, the Q&A covers topics "that matter to NORMAL
HUMAN BEINGS with a humorous twist" (presumably those of us interested in
the mod itself are abnormal), along with stating with equal pride that "None
of these questions were prepared before hand."
Lesson eight, in the possibly premature Neverwinter Vault Scripting Course
is now online, offering tips on how to put loops to proper use when scripting for
this yet-to-be-released RPG. Also, there's a
guide to making your own music for Counter-Strike on CFGN.

For the gamer who has everything, the Only 180° Immersive Computer Monitor at Hammacher Schlemmer (thanks Andrew Arace) is a good gift idea. At $20,594.95 it may seem a bit pricey, but remember that the 2 AA batteries for the remote control are included. Happy birthday Quake. It was five years ago today that (Sgt. Pepper taught... err, no, sorry) the registered version of Quake shipped to those that pre-ordered it. Speaking of pre-orders, it seems there was a glitch sometime over the last couple of days on the GameSkins page where those spiffy Blue's News t-shirts that are all the rage at this year's formal social events can be ordered. Apparently the XL size non-retro shirts sold out causing the blue shirt ordering page and the package page (but not the retro page) to go into some sort of endless "Mudd's Women" loops, which prevented further orders from being taken. This has been cleared up, so if you are looking to sneak in on loony's fuzzy deadline for his "win my stuff" contest, you can still make it, our apologies for any frustration this caused. Link of the Day: Headacher.
Thanks Frostnick. |
