More ION News

Shacknews has discovered that John Romero has registered a pair of new domain names, which could be the name of a new development house he is starting. Both mentallion.com (with the company listed as "Mentallion Industries") and monkeystone.com (listed as "Monkey Stone Games") were registered by Romero using a non ION Storm e-mail address. Whether or not this has anything to do with yesterday's story about ION Austin changing their name (story) is unknown, but chances are that more news on this will be coming in the near future.

Imperium Galactica 3 Announced

German publisher CDV has announced Imperium Galactica 3: Genesis, the third installment in the space strategy game series originally created by Digital Reality. This new game is in development at Philos Laboratories for a release in Spring 2002, and the CDV preview page offers more information and the first four screenshots. Here is an excerpt from the press release:

In Imperium Galactica 3: Genesis, the story and tactical skills are key. The storyline for the realtime strategy/tactics game was written by none less than the famed Hungarian Fantasy and Sci-Fi author Zsolt Nyulaszi.

The life of the protagonist directs the game story. In a future not too far away, the hero and his fleet fight alien races for mankind's survival. Upon his return to Earth he finds his home planet occupied by aliens, with only one human space ship able to escape. The survivors must now find this ship, use it to found colonies and finally reclaim Earth. The non-linear scenario with its different side stories guarantees diversified and tense action.

Imperium Galactica 3: Genesis impresses with its exciting battle scenes full of animations and breathtakingly "real" special effects. But this genre mix offers much more: the player must set up colonies, maintain a fleet and upgrade it by implementing alien technologies, if necessary.

Out of the Blue

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm now a Motorcycle Safety Class dropout, but I have to say I definitely intend on going back, this is a great idea for anyone who rides, even if you are already experienced (which I am not). Want a good reason? It was pointed out that a study of motorcycle accidents found that in 90% of the cases, the rider was self-taught. I think such classes (which also carry a point reduction benefit) are given in around 48 states here in the US.

Today's Media of the Day is another stroke of genius... worth the 15 or so minutes it will take to watch (Here... have a wine cooler).

Link of the Day: Smart-Ass Guide to New York City. Flash required. Even includes an animation of that Cyclone recently discussed in this space.
Story of the Day: Laura Buxton's balloon found by another Laura Buxton (Ananova). Thanks Andrew Arace. How come I get the feeling the statistician from Bath University they quote as saying "the odds against such a coincidence were a million to one, if not more," didn't even make the slightest attempt at doing any sort of statistical modeling on this one?
Weird Science: Scientists Make Dry Beads of Liquid Water (ABC). Thanks Jesh.
Weirder Science: Scientists prove farts spread germs (Ananova).
Wild Science: What's Next: Glasses So Smart They Know What You're Looking At NY Times free registration required. Thanks Jonathan C. Forster.
Media of the Day: Universal Studios Spoof (iFilm). Star-studded spoof, narrated by none other than Trey Parker. Thanks Frostnick. Here... have another wine cooler.
