PC.IGN.com has posted a new Ozzy's Black Skies preview, offering a fairly detailed look ahead to the 3D action title by iROCK that revolves around the infamous rock singer. The article describes the game's structure and features, the contributions of Ozzy himself, their impressions of seeing the game in action, and more, and there are also a few new screenshots among the included images.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth Interview 3 on PC.IGN continues their conversation with Headfirst Productions' Andrew Brazier about their upcoming creepy first-person action adventure based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Andrew talks about how they translated the horrors of the stories into gameplay experiences, the puzzle, adventure and RPG elements, the sanity factor, and a few other topics.
Volition has posted the first installment of Red Faction Tuesday, those regular updates familiar from the run-up to the release of Summoner. This installment brings a new PS2 screenshot of their upcoming first-person shooter of destructable enemies and environments, as well as a weapon of the week to perform such desctructive acts with, the Assault Rifle.
Finally on PC.IGN this evening is a preview of RUNE: Halls of Valhalla, the imminent expansion pack of Viking mayhem by Human Head. There is an overview of the game's features, such as the new Headball and Arena gameplay modes and the spectator cam, the new levels and more, but the included images have already been featured elsewhere before.
Xulu Universe Preview on Daily Radar is a first look at a space-based massively multiplayer title by the appropriately titled Xulu Entertainment. Since little was known about the game so far, the article is loaded with new information on the game's premise and features, and comes illustrated with a few screenshots and a handful of movie clips.
The official Summoner site has word of a new version 1.20 patch for the recently released 3D role-playing game by Volition. The patch is currently available only via the auto-updater in the game, but there is a warning that "the update has some multiplayer balancing issues with magic resistance," and another update (complete with downloadable patch) is being worked on to address that.
There is a new preview of Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern on Games Domain, looking ahead to the third-person role-playing adventure being crafted at Ubi Studios UK. The brief article contains an overview of the game's premise and some impressions from playing a press build, and comes with eight new screenshots. And another ten new screenshots are up at EuroGamer as well.
Sierra Studios has released a new Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura movie trailer for download from their ftp server (16.9 MB), showing off the isometric RPG nearing completion at Troika Games. The trailer offers a mix of cinematic and in-game footage running for about half a minute in Bink format.
Presto Studios sends word that Myst III: Exile, the latest installment in the amazingly popular graphics-heavy adventure series, has gone gold, and is expected on store shelves around May 7.
GameSpot has conducted a quick interview on the Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force Expansion Pack which, as the introduction indicates, is now the official title for Raven's upcoming first-person shooter add-on. Activision producer Graham Fuchs justifies this choice with the remark that "If we added any more words to the title, 'Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Expansion Pack,' we would need a bigger box," before going into more detail about its features. Five new screenshots are also included.
This Activision press release announces a new line-up of PC and (mostly) console games based on the popular Marvel comics in the Spider-Man and X-Men series (thanks AVault). While details about the games and their developers are scarce, one of the titles will be a Spider-Man game for the PC, as described in this excerpt:
For the first time ever, computer gamers can live the fantasy of Spider- Man in 3D with Spider-Man for the PC. Players can leap, crawl and swing anywhere in free-roaming, 3D environments while exploring both the tops of skyscrapers and the underbelly of Manhattan. In order to bring justice to a crime-ridden city, players must face off against Spidey's legendary gallery of super villains with a variety of attack combinations and a vast arsenal of webbing including impact, trapping, web spikes and the web dome. The game also features cameo appearances by some of Spidey's greatest allies. Spider-Man for the PC is scheduled for release this fall.
Update: this GameSpot story clarifies that this PC game will be a port of the Playstation game released last September by Livesay Technologies.
Matrox has released new drivers for their G450, G400 and G200 MMS video cards running under Win98 and WinME. The drivers address a number of game specific problems, including with TRIBES 2, Unreal Tournament, Gore, Oni and others, as well as a few other issues.
There will be a new audio interview on XGR tonight, this time grilling Nexon game designer Kevin Saunders about the massively multiplayer RTS Shattered Galaxy that is currently in beta testing. As usual, the fun kicks off around 9:00 PM EDT and requires WinAmp to tune in to.
eUniverseGames has conducted an
interview with members of the Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns team at TimeGate Studios.
As the game has been out for a short while already, the questions look back
at the development process, and deal with how the game turned out and specific
game design decisions.
Anarchy Enterprises has released LUNA beta
1.3. This latest public beta version includes six new disasters, talking
characters, a more optimized game engine, upgrades to the game interface and
more. One caveat: this new version is not compatible with old save game files,
and has an expiration date of July 1st.
The official Sovereign site has been updated with an
open letter from producer Clint Worley regarding the game's status. Clint
says that the team is working hard to get a playable version ready for next
month's E3 Expo, and that the recent lack of info about the game is due to their
desire to make the E3 appearance that much more dramatic. He also says that
the planned external beta test won't happen until next year.
bQuery version 1.0.0.0 has been released, and is available for download at
its official site. bQuery is a freeware server browser, and this version
supports TRIBES 2, all three Quake games, Soldier of Fortune and Starsiege:
TRIBES among other titles. Be warned that one of the installation options involves
manually modifying your Windows registry settings (although this isn't required
to use the program).
Version 1.2 of the
Scientist Hunt mod for Half-Life has been released. This new version is
the first release to include a Linux port of the mod, and it includes increased
stability and a server option to disable player killing among other changes.
It's available for download as a full install as well as an upgrade for version
1.1 users.
Beta 2 of the DOOMed2Frag mod
for Quake III Arena has been released. DOOMed2Frag is a mod that aims to
bring the hectic style of DOOM deathmatch to Q3A, and this latest release adds
two new weapons (the BFG and flamethrower) and two new maps among other changes.
The Omni Group has released the first public beta version of their
native Mac OS X version of Heavy Metal: FAKK2. It is unsupported by Gathering
of Developers, Ritual and The Omni Group, but for those interested, the file
is available for download as a 2.5 MB Disk Copy image. Naturally, the retail
OS 9 version of FAKK2 is required.
4D Rulers has released a new patch for their Gore multiplayer test demo, bringing their first-person shooter to version 1.27. This 4.5 MB patch is "primarily a networking code fix" and sports a number of code changes, such as reduced packet sizes and improved packet control, and refined player animations.
As promised, Human Head has released a patch for RUNE, updating the English edition of their Viking melee-combat game to version 1.06. The 9.9 MB patch adds a new character model and a number of new gameplay features, and also applies a fair amount of bug fixes, all listed in detail on the download page.
This slipped through the cracks last Friday, but SCi has released a new movie trailer of Titanium Angels, the upcoming third-person action adventure under construction at Mobius Entertainment (thanks eUniverseGames for the reminder). The self-executing Bink movie sports a mix of cutscene and gameplay footage running for nearly two minutes.
PC Zone UK was lucky enough to take a look at the latest version of Command &
Conquer: Renegade, and they have posted a
preview of the game based on what they saw. The preview contains quotes
from Westwood's Mike Bell, and contains lots of new info about the game, including
word that like Halo ( story), it has now become a first person, rather than a third person
title (although third person will still be an option), and while they had originally planned on letting you choose between the
NOD and GDI factions, it will now force you to play on the GDI side.
The first half of FGN
Online's interview with Michael de Plater is online today, talking with
the producer of the upcoming Shogun: Warlord Edition about the new features
in this add-on/re-release of the original Shogun: Total War. In this portion
Michael provides details on the new battlefield units, the opening FMV (which
apparently uses footage from Kurosawa's classic film RAN), the new Mongol faction
and more. Two new, high-res screenshots are also included.
A new preview
of Westwood's Earth and Beyond is up at Computer Games Online this morning.
Although the preview doesn't contain any new screenshots, the author was able
to check out the game at Westwood's office, and it contains plenty of details
along with some quotes from producer Rade Stojsavljevic.
Fragland.net has conducted a
Q&A with Marcin Drews of Metropolis Software, talking with him about
their upcoming action/adventure title Archangel. Marcin talks specifically about
the game's backstory, its internally-developed 3D engine and their plans to
release it simultaneously in the US and Europe.
There's a
preview of Startopia on Happy Puppy taking a look ahead a the upcoming space
station building simulation from Mucky Foot. The shots accompanying the preview
have been previously posted elsewhere, but the article itself offers hands-on
impressions of the game.
Volume 11 of GameSpy.com's ORB Developer Diary
is online, describing the latest action in the production on Ethermoon's upcoming strategy
game set in the Off-world Resource Base. Called the final cut, this looks like
it may be the last installment in the series, which focuses on the game's
races, leaders, and ships. Also, RPGPlanet's
Harbinger Developer Diary is penned by Andy Muir, co-founder of Silverback
Entertainment and lead programmer on Harbinger, an upcoming science fiction
action/RPG from some of the folks behind Postal.
GameSpy.com previews Myst III Exile,
the upcoming installment in the ultimate non-action game series. The article
describes what will be similar to the previous Myst games, as well as what's
different, and also includes a conversation on the subject with
Daniel Achterman, associate producer on the game.
Word on StrategyPlanet is they are
holding an online chat session with the folks from Ethermoon
to discuss progress on Strifeshadow, their upcoming RTS. The session kicks off
today at 7:00 PM EDT in the StrategyPlanet
GameSpy Arcade Room.
The Networkleague
Tournament Sign-up page is online with registration for this online
tournament promising $20,000(US) in prizes. Also, Unreal
Tournament: The Ultimate Spring Clean-Up on Game Citizen has word of an
upcoming online tourney offering a Logitech SoundMan XTrusio sound system as the
prize. Also, the GameCaster website has
posted the second episode of Gamecaster, a streaming video show focused on the
Babbages CPL $100,000 Quake 3 Tournament, featuring interviews with star
players, play-by-play highlights of the final match, and more.
Intelgamer's
Lost Species interview is another installment in their series currently
highlighting mods under construction for Serious Sam. Also, The Rock Mod Half-Life Modification
page has been updated with a few new screenshots.
There's a new version of the
Leadworks editing program on AvPNews.com, fixing the importer bugs and
offering a new shortcut bar for this Aliens versus Predator editing utility.
