A new version 0.6b of ZDoomGL is now available on Kokak's Doom Page, updating his OpenGL port of the ZDoom port of the public DOOM source code. The new release adds lens flares support, a new light.ini format and a slew of bug fixes that address a game crash, several rendering issues and more, all listed in the README. Additionally, a brief FAQ has been posted, and an MD2.ini file is available to disable the HUD if you prefer.
The veni vidi vici website has
their active server list client that will allow users to check the status of
your Delta Force: Land Warrior server via their web interface. Information on
any Land Warrior server that runs this utility will be transmitted to their
site, and updated every 20 seconds.
As promised some time back, the Tread Marks
website now offers a CTF patch for Tread Marks, Longbow Digital Arts' game
where you use tanks to play the race card. The new patch is about a 4 MB
download, adds Capture the Flag gameplay to version 1.5 of Tread Marks offering
six new CTF maps, plus new team deathmatch and team racing functions. Word is
"the patch also includes an extension of the free-look camera view to a
full 360degrees and a few minor bug and server-side fixes."
GameSpy.com's 20 Questions with Richard Garriott
talks with the game designer more commonly known by his uncommon title, Lord
British. As a continuation of their '20 questions not about their game' series,
the conversation covers several non-gaming topics, though the word Ultima seems
to have slipped into more than one question.
There is a new Kingdom Under Fire
screenshot Gallery at ActionTrip with some shots they've snapped from a
playable build of Phantagram's RTS/RPG that just went gold here in the US
( story).

A new version 0.74b of the Voodoo4+ Runner
is now available.
- Savage Tweaker
A new version 3.11 of the Savage
Tweaker utility is now available, addressing a few bugs, and fixing
compatibility problems with other tweak programs.
- New HyperSnap-DX
A new version 4.01.08 of the HyperSnap-DX
screen capture utility for Windows 95 or NT has been released, as is often
the case, hot on the heels of the previous version.
- CpuIdle
A new version of the CpuIdle is now available, updating
this "intelligent power-management" program that will lower CPU
temperatures by throttling back the processor when possible. Thanks File Flash.

offers their first day's worth of coverage from the Consumer Electronics
Show. Speaking of CES, TECH-REVIEW.com's

talks with one of the spokespersons for NVIDIA about their recent
acquisition of 3dfx' assets.
There's an Arcanum Chat Log
on IanStorm with an edited recap of yesterday's IRC session with Troika, the
developers currently toiling away on Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura,
their upcoming RPG. One tidbit that is revealed along the way is that one of the
voice actors in Arcanum will be Dwight Schulz (Murdock from the A-Team).
A Taste of Game Development at Ensemble
is a new article on the Ensemble Studios
website that gives the usual vague treatment to their current project,
codenamed RTS3, along with a brief bio of lead programmer Rob Fermier and a
rundown of the process that lead to his joining the ensemble at Ensemble.
A new version 3.0.0 of the Q_Check mIRC
auto-away plug-in script for GameSpy is now available. The new version offers
some new features to keep your IRC buddies informed about your status when
playing online games, including customizable game/mod abbreviations,
multiple keyword triggers, a new not playing
template, and more.
The (still noisy) ColdStorage website
has the release of a new full version 2.2.2 of Kquery (again, "the luvable,
huggable #alternate# game server browser"). This new iteration fixes an ICQ
bug and some "task bar weirdness" and adds a new Nullsoft installation
routine, an improved player finder, new query on startup options, and auto-ping/Auto-query
master servers options.
The first release of the QMass
Quake II Logger is now available, offering a simplified log parser for Quake
II servers, with both a Linux binary and multi-platform source code available
for download.
The Abode Of Golgotha Saga website
has the release of the Maw of the Umbra: Abode of Golgotha 2 modification for
Heretic II, the sequel to their first Heretic II mod of the same name (minus the
"2"). This single-player conversion offers 12 areas "with loads
of puzzles and action," new audio effects, two different endings (as well
as "a split pathway point that will change the way you go through a portion
of the game") in this mod that is a continuation of the story begun in the
original Abode of Golgotha.
A post by John Carmack called Re:I've
re-installed my Windows partition on Slashdot re-affirms id's intent to
continue to support Linux with the release of their upcoming Doom game, though
it will likely only be NVIDIA OpenGL support out of the box in the still far-off first test release: We are still
supporting linux.
The only downside of the next product is that initially it will probably only
work at full feature level with the Nvidia OpenGL driver, but after the first
test gets out (still a very long time in the future), I will jump back in to the
driver development to try and bring the other open source drivers up to par.
John Carmack
GamerOffice.com has the debut release
of their Windows 2000 Games and Applications Launcher, which can ease the
process of running games under Win2K by automatically setting them to run at a
higher priority, helping to prevent slowdowns.
A new version 1.1.7 of the Simple DirectMedia Layer
has been released (thanks Jacek Fedoryński), which is described as "the
pre-release for SDL 1.2, the next stable SDL release."
HitmanHQ's Walkthrough
is now complete, offering a full guide to making your way through the thrills of
hired assassination offered in Hitman: Codename 47. Also, the third part of GameSpy.com's
Giants Citizen Kabuto Quick Guide completes their rundown on Giants
strategies by offering tips on playing the big guy, Kabuto, himself. Finally,
the Counter-Strike Tweaking Guide by 3DRage
is online, offering an intro to the Half-Life mod, as well as tweaking tips.
Eurogamer's LAN Arena 5
Coverage offers day-by-day, match-by-match rundowns of what's been happening
this weekend in Saint-Denis in northern Paris, including coverage of the UK
versus France challenge. Meanwhile, this Reuters Photo
(on Yahoo) shows off the event as well, which they describe as "the biggest
computer gaming contest ever (organized) in France." Thanks Joe Siegler.
This page on the
RUNE website promises "your chance to break into the gaming community,"
as they have posted word of a community mapping contest for RUNE, Human Head
Studios' game of hacking and slashing, Viking style. Five selected maps from the
competition will be included in the upcoming RUNE add-on pack, and another pair
will be made available for download from their site.
