Chris Kingsley of Rebellion Studios is interviewed on GameSpy.com today, talking about their work on Aliens vs. Predator and The Mummy, as well as the company's eight-year history. When asked about the Aliens vs. Predator title Monolith and Fox Interactive are working on, he says that since Fox owns the rights to AvP they can do what they like, however he also says, "we are continuing to work with Fox Interactive on a number of projects."

Domain of Games interviews David Eddings of Gathering of Developers in a conversation that took place during the recent Babbage's/CPL tournament. David is the director of promotion and channel marketing for GoD, and the conversation covers the kind of things that leads to, like being chased from the E3 halls for distributing their schoolgirl calendars.

Unreal Tournament JailBreak

The debut release of JailBreak for UT is now available, offering all the action of the Q2 prison bust out mod in Unreal Tournament. The first version, said to be extensively tested for bugs, offers four maps (two of them are conversions of previous JailBreak levels), is fully netplay enabled, and supports play with and against bots.

New Q3Comp

Though there's no reference to my not-namesake "blue bug," the Reactive Software website has a new version 2.03b of the Q3Comp front-end for Quake III Arena and Quake III: Team Arena (thanks RTD Quake III). The new release fixes team locking and unlocking, fixes spectator mute and team_say, and removes some debugging messages from this program described as: "A server mod designed to provide anything a player or admin could want. Complete customization, player admin, match services, server configuration, stats reporting, and a whole lot more."

UT Background Changer

The osX website has the first release of the osX background changer for download, the logical successor to their osX background. This PC utility will allow you to change the background on your Unreal Tournament desktop, and offers what's described as a comprehensive toolkit for the creation of your own backgrounds.

FAQs and Guides

A page on ParkLAN called Q3TA Tweaks offers tips on how to create an autoexec.cfg file for Quake III Arena and Team Arena that will improve your framerate. Also, Fatal1ty's Guide to the CPL Maps on Q3A @ Stomped is just that, a rundown on tips and strategies for use in the CPL tournament maps from pro gamer Fatal1ty. The detailed rundown is illustrated with over a dozen screenshots to make sure everything's understandable. Finally, a borderline tech bit, NT Compatible's Game Tuning Guide for Windows NT-2000 offers tips on getting your games working best on these OSes that are not targeted at gamers.

Out of the Blue

Well happy new year! I just noticed when saving a file using today's date that padded with zeroes it is 01/01/01 (or, in England, 01/01/01)... neat, huh? Here's hoping that this past year was great for you, and next year is better, I know I'm starting the new year off right by making a batch of my nigh-famous chili, so Indian Point is not the only local spot with a potential meltdown this morning... you have been warned.

Story of the Day: 'Casablanca' Screenwriter Jules Epstein Dies (Fox). Thanks theAntiELVIS. Remembering the late author of one of my favorite films. Louis: "What in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?" Rick: "My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters." Louis: "The waters? What waters? We're in the desert." Rick: "I was misinformed."
Weird Science: Space Ants. "Futuristic Probes to Cruise Asteroid Belt." Thanks Ant (who else?).
