Daily Radar continues their week-long look at what they think will be the great
games of 2001 this evening, with their
latest roundup article. Tonight's edition looks at Warcraft III, Alone in
the Dark 4, Shadowbane and the creepy anti-game Majestic, and for each one there
are new screenshots (or the equivalent in Majestic's case) and a Q&A with
one of the game's designers.
After last week's auto-update ( story) and PC patch ( story), Blizzard has now released a downloadable patch for the Mac edition of Diablo II. The 3.7 MB download naturally brings the game to version 1.04, and the long list of changes is available on the patch page.
Version 0.81 of the
Modus Moriendi mod for Deus Ex has been released (thanks Stormtroopers).
Modus Moriendi is a multiplayer CTF style mod, and there was actually a 0.8
version released briefly before this so be sure to download 0.81 if you grabbed
that during its original release.
Korean developers Jamie System Development have released a new version 2.2 of their Axis demo, as well as a patch to upgrade the previous version of their robotic multiplayer first-person shooter. The page is in Korean but the demo works in English as before, and this release adds a new GreenField map, a fix for Savage card users, a new macro function, and a few other changes. Thanks AVault, which has a mirror of the demo here (or try 3D Gamers for mirrors of both demo and patch).
Inside Mac Games has conducted an
interview with Michael Rogers of Aspyr Media, the company behind the Mac
OS ports of Deus Ex and The Sims among others. The questions deal with the state
of Mac OS gaming, and Michael confirms that they will be supporting OS X in
the future, and that they will offer patches for current games to add OS X support
in the near future.
Ensemble Studios has released another
of their weekly random map scripts for Age of Empires II: The Conquerors
(thanks ActiveWin.com). This week's
map is Sherwood Forest, and is characterized by its loose scattering of trees.
While the weekly maps are traditionally multiplayer-only, this week's also contains
a version for single player.
Somehow it just wouldn't seem like a day this week without another one of Stomped's
year-end Q&As, so naturally another
one is online today. Today they talk with Dr. Ray Muzyka And Dr. Greg Zeschuk
of BioWare, and each of the two answers the same set of questions about the
year that was and what's to come in 2001.
GameSpy.com continues their week-long series of interviews with art directors
with today's talk
with Will Rosas of Pandemic Studios. Will was the art director on Dark Reign
2, and like all the interviews in this series, he talks about his artistic background
(he's a graduate of the School of Visual Arts here in NYC) as well as his style
and what inspires him.
Also online for your viewing pleasure this morning is a new Gothic screenshot on
Krawall News,
the German-language site showing off this upcoming RPG from German developer Piranha Bytes.
The shot is captioned "furcht," which translated to English, means
"fear."
The Battle.net website has the announcement
that as of the first of the new year, their Diablo II ladders will be reset
(thanks DiabloII.Net and Ant).
Here's the announcement: On January 1, 2001 at 12:01 a.m. PT, the
Diablo II Standard and Hardcore Ladders will be reset signifying the start of
the new season. All characters created before January 1, 2001 will no longer
appear on the Ladder. If you wish to be on the Diablo II Ladder after this date
you will have to create a new character following the reset. The Diablo II
Ladder reset will not otherwise affect any existing characters and no characters
will be deleted. The Battle.net site will list the top 10 Ladder players on each
ladder for each Realm. The new Ladder season does not have a final ending date
however it is probable that the next Ladder reset will occur when the Diablo II
Expansion is released.

the business."
Video Business
reports that CES attendees are to get a first look at the Xbox at the show early next
month. Thanks Stomped. Also, as the Daily
Radar's look ahead at PC games for 2001 continues, so does their look at
consoles, this time out focusing on sequels, with a look at upcoming follow-ups
from Sega,
PS2,
and Nintendo.
The Telefraggged Action
Half-Life page has the exclusive release of the Action Half-Life Christmas movie,
a 2 minute 20 second movie from the Action
Team that includes in game player and weapon models from the upcoming Beta 4
version of Action Half-Life.
Wow, I almost forgot how quiet the week following the holidays can be!
Story of the Day: Two-time Oscar-winner Jason Robards dead at 78
(CNN).
Bonus Story: Leo Gordon, played villains in scores of Westerns, dies at 78

lot of westerns, the face (found on What A
