A new screenshot from
Ultima Worlds Online: Origin is up at UO2Vault. The screenshot depicts Lord
Blackthorn, who should be familiar to anyone that's played any of the Ultima
games, and whose presence suggests that Origin may have closer ties to the Ultima
universe than EA has said recently.
Back from the MacWorld Expo, id Software's Graeme Devine updated
his .plan with his thoughts on the expo and the Mac platform in general,
plus word that they're going to be sending a build of Quake III Arena with support
for the just-announced dual processor G4 systems off to Apple as soon as today.
Here's what he has to say: Back from MacWorld, and quite the MacWorld
is was too. Gotta love the cube!
Walking around the show floor and talking to the various Mac developers and
publishers it's clear that the level of support Apple is providing across the
game community is making a huge and positive difference. I've worked with Apple
on and off for 12 years or so (since 7th Guest days, and before that when I
was at Virgin), and within the last year have felt their presence as more and
more of a partner in my endeavors to make this platform rock. My thanks go out
to Mike, Heather, Wallace and Geoff for their efforts above and beyond the call
of duty, and I know a lot of other developers are there with me. Apple is really
there for game developers right now.
I'll be adding the SMP support into Q3A and shipping a build off to Apple today.
We've already got that stubbed in there.
The platform is exceptional. In the last 2 years Apple has sold 3.7 million
iMacs (not including G4 and G3 towers). That's one every 18 seconds. Out of
that, over 80% of those machines are on the Internet. When Apple launched iMovie,
the digital video editing software for the iMac, they found that over 45% of
those with iMacs capable of using iMovie were using it. These are incredible
figures.

Hyperion Software
has released an Amiga port of Siege,
the class-based teamplay mod for Raven Software's Heretic II. To use the port,

website converted for their systems. To further complicate matters, this
conversion needs to take place on a PC, though they say pre-converted data files
will be available at some point today from Aminet.

Christian "Disruptor" Antkow updated
his .plan with kudos for the add-on from another old-school RA fan (I

1), but I'm not surprised, as I have a lot of faith in crt's abilities... see
you in the arenas!
Link of the Day: US
Patent 5,501,650 (March 26, 1996) for an "Automated Masturbatory
Device." Thanks Tane Piper (who incorrectly thought, as I did, that its
inclusion in the IBM database meant IBM owned the patent-thanks Robert Ellsner
and Jason Spinosa for the correction).
Story of the Day: California Man Dies in Huge Vat of Wine.
Thanks theAntiELVIS. A sad story, to be sure, but so, so reminiscent of a
favorite W.C. Fields line: Woman: "Someday you'll drown in a vat of
whiskey!" Fields: "Drown in a vat of whiskey... death, where is
thy sting?"
