Innovative First-Person Action PC Game Delivers Immersive Story-Driven
Gameplay Packed with Action
Players Enter Cyberspace to Battle Computer Viruses and Corruption
BURBANK, Calif. ‹ (Aug. 26, 2003) ‹ Gamers and TRON® fans alike can now
digitize themselves into the world of the computer with Buena Vista
Interactive¹s TRON 2.0, which debuts today on store shelves across North
America. Inspired by TRON, the ground-breaking science-fiction film, TRON 2.0 is
a first-person PC game that delivers immersive story-driven gameplay packed with
intense action, virtual viral villains and a unique visual style.
"High speed light cycle racing, fierce arena combat, an engaging
storyline and unforgettable characters make TRON 2.0 a stunning tribute to the
TRON property with all the makings of a blockbuster game," said Bob Picunko,
director of marketing, Buena Vista Interactive. "We¹re honored to deliver
the next chapter of the TRON universe to loyal fans of the franchise, and
captivating a new audience of hard-core and casual gamers."
Critics agree. With reviews hitting across the world, game journalists are
talking about TRON¹s appeal:
"Whether or not you're a fan of the movie, ŒTRON 2.0¹ oozes with style
and substance. Developer Monolith Productions deserves credit for creating one
of the finest and most unique PC games of the year to date." Marc
Saltzman, Gannett News Service, Aug. 8, 2003
TRON 2.0 features the voice talent of original TRON cast members Bruce
Boxleitner, who reprises his role as Alan Bradley, and Cindy Morgan, who
portrays Ma3a (mah-THREE-ah), an artificial intelligence program, as well as
Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, who provides the voice of Mercury, the undefeated
champion light cycle racer who teams up with lead character Jet Bradley to
combat corruption in the computer world. Syd Mead, renowned conceptual artist
famous for his legendary design contributions to innovative films such as TRON,
Bladerunner and Aliens, updated the iconic light cycles seen in the title.
In addition, the game reunites two visionaries from the film, Steven
Lisberger, director, story and screenplay writer, and Richard Taylor, visual and
computer effects supervisor, both of who consulted on the project. Also included
is music from original TRON composer, Wendy Carlos.
TRON 2.0¹s popularity has inspired ancillary products, including action
figures from NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Association) and a
forthcoming TRON comic book mini-series from 88 MPH Studios. Action figures
based on Jet, Mercury, IC Regular and Thorne are now available online at
www.necaonline.com. The comic book, which will follow the adventures of Jet
Bradley exploring the TRON universe, releases this winter.
Developed by critically acclaimed Monolith Productions, TRON 2.0 takes place
in the present day, approximately 20 years after the events of the film. Playing
as Jet Bradley, son of ENCOM programmer Alan Bradley from the TRON film, gamers
are digitized into cyberspace and will race on light cycles, battle corruption
both inside and outside of the computer world, and explore locations including
the Internet Hub, Firewall, Corrupted Server and Light Cycle Game Grid.
In addition to more than 30 enormous levels of story-driven single-player
gameplay, players can challenge themselves or up to eight others in 16 levels of
light cycle racing. They can also compete individually or as teams with up to 16
opponents in 20 different gladiatorial disc combat arenas.
TRON 2.0 is Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP compatible and available for a suggested
retail price of $49.99.
