Funcom Announces Strong Production Line-Up
- New products include a sequel to The Longest Journey -
Oslo, Norway - February 27, 2003 - In addition to the upcoming Anarchy Online
expansion, Shadowlands, Funcom today announces exciting additions to its product
portfolio. Work has started on a new booster pack for Anarchy Online, the
long-awaited sequel to the award-winning The Longest Journey, and a brand new
Persistent Online World game.
With these new titles, Funcom will pave the way for single-player adventure
and role-playing games on multiple platforms, in addition to Persistent Online
Worlds. "We will hence focus our efforts on what we excel at: exciting
adventures, role-playing, astounding visuals, high-quality content, deep
game-play and fascinating stories," Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas explains.
The Longest Journey is considered a true classic within the adventure genre,
and has attracted a huge following world-wide. It was voted Adventure Game of
the Year 2000 by both PC Gamer and Computer Gaming World, and received numerous
similar awards and a large number of rave reviews. Please visit:

"Hundreds of thousands of players worldwide have wondered when the next
chapter in The Longest Journey would come out." says Trond Aas. "For
years, both gaming media and fans have requested this sequel, and we recognize
that they deserve to get the next chapter of the saga." Early this week the
concept was approved, and key members of the original game are already hard at
work with the sequel.
The many fans of the critically acclaimed Anarchy Online will also have a lot
to look forward to in the coming period. Not only will Funcom release its
anticipated expansion pack Shadowlands this year, full production on the next
booster pack will move forward.
"Our main focus for Anarchy Online is still obviously our expansion,
Shadowlands, but we have started conceptualizing another booster pack," Aas
continues. "With the success we had with the introduction of the booster
pack concept, we're certain we will expand and improve on that with a second
product."
"One of the main features in the next booster pack will be social
aspects, like player-made towns and gardens," says Game Director Gaute
Godager. The working title is "Towns of Rubi-Ka", a project that will
further expand the depth and possibilities in the most advanced Persistent
Online World to date.
Funcom can also reveal that a new Persistent Online World has been in the
works for the last nine months. The first impressive looking demo is already up
and running. With the new title Funcom aims to take the genre to a new level,
both in terms of setting, graphics and player immersion. "With the
invaluable experiences gained from Anarchy Online we are in a better position
than ever to create a brand new and fantastic Persistent Online World" says
Aas.
Additional information and images to the press and public will until further
notice be withheld on these new projects.
