QuakeCon 2000 Model Contest Results

QuakeCon2000 Mesquite, TX 75150 August 6, 2000

PRESS RELEASE

Id Software and Polycount.com along with sponsors Discreet, Nvidia and PlanetQuake are pleased to announce the professional judging results for the QuakeCon 2000 Map_Object Model Contest. Contestants from around the world entered Quake III Arena compatible .md3 format models to be judged by artists, modelers and level designers working with the Quake III Game Engine.

The Judges included:

Christian Antkow of id Software Eric Beissman of Raven Software Kevin Cloud of id Software Richard “Levelord” Gray of Ritual Entertainment Brandon James of Rogue Entertainment Brian Pelletier of Raven Software Kenneth Scott of id Software Tim Willits of id Software

A popular voting contest in which the “Bring Your Own Computer” attendees of QuakeCon 2000 were to vote for their favorite models had to be postponed due to technical difficulties. Contest officials will work to create a fan voting venue that will allow that portion of the contest to continue.

The Judges Decisions are as follows:

The Gragler lights by Bjornar Johnansen takes third place and receives a Limited Edition, signed and number lithograph print “Dragon’s Crag” by id designer Paul Jaquays, and a print from Discreet featuring the characters of Quake III Arena.

Mino by Herve Groussin takes the second place prize of a Planet Quake bomber style jacket and a metal box edition of Quake III Arena signed by the current id crew.

Bloodstone by Andrew “AlphaWolf” Gilmour receives the first prize of a full edition of 3Dstudio Max R3 and Character Studio 2.2 from Discreet, and a GeForce 2 3D graphic acceleration card.
