EIDOS INTERACTIVE BRINGS THE PC GAME OF THE YEAR DEUS EX TO THE
PLAYSTATION®2 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM Uncover The Ultimate Dark
Conspiracy In The Console Enhancement Of This Critically Acclaimed PC Game
San Francisco, CA - (May 17, 2001) - Eidos Interactive, a leading developer
and publisher of interactive entertainment, today announced that multi-award
winning first person action adventure title Deus Ex is currently in development
for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Developed by Ion
Storm-Austin, Deus Ex has won numerous gaming awards, including PC Gamer
magazine's coveted "Game Of The Year" prize in its annual best-of
awards. Deus Ex is slated to arrive in stores in winter of 2001, completely
revised for PlayStation 2.
"Eidos is truly excited and proud to bring the Deus Ex experience to the
console gamer," says Matt Gorman of Eidos Interactive. "Deus Ex
delivers a vast and elegantly executed game-play experience, incorporating the
best elements of role-playing, action, adventure and first-person genres, with
an intensity and depth yet unseen on any console."
In Deus Ex, the gamer plays the role of J.C. Denton, a rookie anti-terrorist
agent with UNATCO -- the UN Anti-Terrorist Coalition. J.C., a nano-technologically
augmented operative with remarkable abilities, has been ordered to investigate
the terrorist activity in and around New York concerning a plague called the
Gray Death. The elusive plague has no known cure and the only temporary
treatment is Ambrosia, which is in drastically short supply. J.C. must make sure
that the terrorists do not divert supplies of Ambrosia from the people who truly
need it. But as J.C. encounters the terrorists, he begins to notice certain
discrepancies, and eventually questions the nature of his orders. Ultimately,
J.C. ends up distrusting UNATCO and is caught in the middle of mind-bending plot
as various groups vie for control of the world. In discovering the facts, J.C.
learns that in this world you can trust no one, as your enemies, and even your
allies, may be more than they appear.
Deus Ex boasts a chaotic blend of real world conspiracies, cliffhangers and
plot twists that can only be accomplished with great technological achievements.
The Playstation 2 version of the game will build upon the groundbreaking
technology present in Deus Ex, with several enhancements focused solely on the
needs of the console community. The streamlined user interface will allow the
player to concentrate more on actual game-play and less on auxiliary actions
such as menu navigation and inventory management. The overall game control is
designed from the ground up to take full advantage of the Sony Dual Shock
Controller, allowing the player unprecedented freedom of control and movement.
Improved character graphics such as motion captured animations coupled with
higher polygon counts allow for life-like movement and actions of the characters
within the world. Ion Storm-Austin will use upgraded sound technology to provide
high quality sound effects and music to add to the atmosphere and ambiance of
this globe-hoping epic.
In Deus Ex for PlayStation 2, the player will have the ability to create and
manage a compelling alter ego. Players will be offered several different avenues
to select and develop their own unique set of skills, attributes and nano-tech
augmentations. This, coupled with determining which weapons and objects they
will use to solve and survive problems, creates the most comprehensive character
development seen to date in interactive gaming. How players choose to deal with
scores of non-player characters affects the outcome of the game,
minute-to-minute, mission-to-mission, and beginning to end.
Deus Ex has received over 30 "Game of the Year" accolades from
numerous industry and fan publications, including "Game of the Year"
from PC Gamer Magazine, "Best PC Game of 2000" by the British Academy
of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA), "PC Action/Adventure Game of the
Year" and "PC Innovation in Computer Gaming" from The Academy of
Interactive Arts and Science.
