CHILD’S PLAY CHARITY BUSTS MILLION DOLLAR MARK
SEATTLE – Dec. 4, 2009 – Video gamers all over the world have already donated $1,010,680.28 to Child’s Play for gifts of toys, games and books for sick children at more than 70 hospitals worldwide.
With several weeks left before Christmas and the annual Child’s Play Gala and Auction still to come, the charity hopes to surpass the $1.4 million raised last year.
“With so may people out of work, we’ve been amazed at the huge response this year,” Kristin Lindsay, Project Manager, Child's Play, explains. “The game community is really digging deep and we’re on track for a record breaking year.”
Participating hospitals post their wish lists on Amazon, allowing gamers to select the gifts and hospital(s) they’d like to donate to through the Child’s Play Charity Web site. Cash donations can also be made through PayPal.
Started in 2003, Child’s Play has raised more than $5 million dollars in toys, games and cash for hospitalized kids since its inception. In addition to hospitals in the U.S., gamers contributing to Child’s Play serve hospitals in the U.K, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Egypt.
