X Rebirth Lives

Publisher Tri Synergy announces they've teamed with EGOSOFT for the release of X Rebirth, the upcoming sci-fi sequel, saying this will be shown off at next week's E3 with the goal of a release by the end of this year. We haven't heard much about X Rebirth since EGOSOFT announced plans to release a fourth installment in the X series of space combat games in the fourth quarter of 2011, a plan which obviously went awry at some point. Here's word on the game which vaguely addresses the delay:

X Rebirth brings a completely new beginning to the X series. Loyal fans of the X series and wet-behind-the-ears greenhorns will enter an unprecedented universe of incredible scope and detail. Launching your game experience is simple; it is what you want to do as a speck in the universe that is the ultimate challenge. Become a seasoned trader as you master the trading mechanics of an organic economy; explore space using the new fast travel transportation systems; take part in white-knuckled space combat as a single ship or as commander of a vast armada. It is all easy to learn, but hard to master.

X Rebirth offers a fresh look at space simulation and open-space game play that fans of the X Universe have waited over 2 years to experience. As Bernd Lehahn, CEO of Egosoft explains:

ďItís beautiful, itís big and everything in it is new. But it turns out you donít simply reinvent space games overnight.Ē
