PCMag.com has more on NPD Groups August report of retail video game and hardware sales in the U.S. Following word earlier this week of a mysterious drop in player totals, the full report indicates sales figures continue to decline, though it seems obvious that they are still struggling to capture how much of the market is no longer represented by retail: "Total U.S. retail sales of new video game systems, software, and accessories hit $515.6 million during the month, down from $647.2 million a year ago, according to the NPD Group. Adding in used, rental, and digital-format sales, NPD estimated that consumers spent a total of $989 million on gaming in August."
