Kingdom Under Fire II in Beta

Blueside sends details on Kingdom Under Fire II, the first we've heard in a while about the upcoming online continuation of this real-time strategy series. They say development of the game for PCs is well underway, and following the conclusion of the first round of beta testing they are preparing for a second closed beta. They highlight the capabilities of their proprietary graphics engine, saying the FAME tech 2 engine. [It is] "Good for processing massive numbers of units and outstanding rendering techniques to express the Medieval Europe War" says Blueside manager Hyo-Jung Shin. "The function of Procedure Animation will be enforced, and the expression of various natural animations will become possible in the future." Here are a few images, and here's the translated statement:

Between Aug 20th and 22th at the CEDEC 2012 Conference held in Pacifico Yokohama, Japan, Mr. Hyo-Jung Shin/Manager from Blueside had successfully made a speech about their game engine animation functions system that is used for “Kingdom under Fire ll” which is a PC online game under being developed now.

CEDEC is one of the Japan’s largest and leading game developers’ conference held by Computer Entertainment Software Association (CESA); and is also widely known for its authority as with the GDC of America. At the 13th of CEDEC for this year, Mr. Sakurai, who is famous for Kirby’s Dream Land, and Super Smash Bros series etc., had made a speech on the first day. Also Mr. Hashimoto/CTO from Square Enix, Mr. Miyake from Square Enix, and Mr. Halada from AMD, and over 200 people have attended the conference as speakers, and made speeches and discussions about their new techniques or game developing process, etc.

Mr. Hyo-Jung Shin/Manager from Blueside explained about their game engine “FAME tech 2”(This engine is used for “Kingdom under Fire ll”) techniques, which are Animation Cashing that can process massive number of units quickly in real time, Parametric Blending technique which can generate various characters’ animations in real time most naturally, and Animation process by IK(Inverse Kinematics) that handles animation of enormous monsters in real time. After careful listening to the talk, many developers that have attended the conference had a Q/A session referring to Parametric Blending technique and complicated Inverse Kinematics.

Mr. Shin graduated from Tokyo University with a master degree, and developed OCTAVE ENGINE series, which is a physic engine based on hydromechanics. After that he was responsible for technique consulting and R&D at Bandai Namco Games, and since last September Mr. Shin has joined Blueside’s engine team and is now responsible for Animation/Physics development. Mr. Shin has pointed out that the merits of FAME tech 2 should be “Good for processing massive numbers of units and outstanding rendering techniques to express the Medieval Europe War” and said “The function of Procedure Animation will be enforced, and the expression of various natural animations will become possible in the future” at the conference.

The masterpiece on-line game, “Kingdom under Fire ll”, which was made with the Blueside’s in-house game engine FAME tech 2, has successfully ended with its 1st CBT and is now under preparation for its 2nd CBT.
