The United States Patent and Trademark Office shows a trademark registration for the term "Shift" that was recently filed by Gearbox Software (thanks Kristian). From the looks of it, this is not for a game title, but rather a distribution network, with the implication that the developer is planning its own service in the style of Valve's Steam.
