Out of the Blue

We sat down yesterday to watch the DVD of Star Trek, and the disc has problems causing it to skip entire portions of the movie. I checked for debris, smudges, or scratches on the DVD surface, but it seems clear, but the movie doesn't want to play right. I've got a very large DVD collection (since we never get out to the movie theater), and this has never happened once before, though now I'm nervous about discs that haven't been viewed yet, as it would not be possible to return older purchases like we'll be able to do with Star Trek.
