Turns out a couple of Duke Nukem Forever shots are tucked in the Duke
Nukem 3D Xbox release, though first-generations versions are not available.

it will NEVER live up to the expectations of gamers and the press. Fair enough, but that wasnt my point. Look, for all I know the game is garbage, and if I knew that, I wouldnt BE interested, meaning that I really wouldnt be interested, to spell it out: If I wasnt interested, there would be no point in going on BN to tell everyone how little interest I had in the game. Plenty of games mentioned on this site sparks little or no interest in me, take for example one mentioned next to DNF right here: "Galactic Civilizations II: Endless Universe" I couldnt care less, sorry, but I dont see any need to post that in ever Galactic Civilizations II: Endless Universe thread, going "This game is completely uninteresting to me" or "Not buying this". Those claims are probably true, but I dont post them because I really do not care about that game. I DO care about DNF, and so do all these "Not interested" posters, obviously

No, it isn't done. It's gone. The released TF2 is not the realistic military team shooter that it was intended to be. Eh, given that TF1 wasn't even remotely a realistic military team shooter, I don't think they should have intended for TF2 to be one either. I think the current incarnation of TF2 is a more worthy successor than Valve's original vision.

I was looking for a discussion, not a "stupid argument". What makes you come to this wrong conclusion? Just because I got a different opinion and - unlike trolls - try to discuss about it? Without calling people names or saying "Dagok is a troll, because he refuses discuss"? C'mon, grow up.

By all means criticize a game because it's shit but not because it took a long time.
I don't see the point in criticizing DNF, because it doesn't exist. I do, however, enjoy pointing out and commenting on 3D Realms utter incompetence from time to time. These updates give me that opportunity. |

The released TF2 is not the realistic military team shooter that it was intended to be. Wait a second, since when was TF2 intended to be a realistic military team shooter?
It had a realistic ART STYLE, but I don't believe anything was ever released about the gameplay. TFC too had a realistic art style, especially once they released the new model pack, but you'd be hard pressed calling TFC realistic.
Correct me if I'm wrong though, but I don't think Valve ever indicated as such.

Its remarkable how many "not interested" comments by interested people 3DR gets whenever there is some new DNF info around. Its like being in a bar full of alcoholics that keeps repeating their dislike of beer for every round they buy. I thinks its just a knee jerk response to beat down DNF. after all its been the butt of so many jokes for years now, and even if it ever does come out it will NEVER live up to the expectations of gamers and the press. After all these years it would need to be about 5 times better than Halflife to even have a chance of not hearing "we waited 20 years for this?".

It's not about game engines, it's about basic design and contents. I don't see where you're going with this. TF2 follows closely the gameplay of TFC, with a few changes (graphic direction / humour, removal of grenades and focus on CP); we don't know the situation with DNF but clearly it's changed from the original design. Even so, change isn't the important factor - being a good game is. It doesn't matter if DNF follows the exact same principles of the game announced a decade ago IF IT'S A GOOD GAME.
Saying that, I'll be happy to bash it if it turns out to be bad. It also means that if it's average it will be torn apart, and rightly so. The point I'm making is that it is of little-to-no concern how long the game took, especially as it's not like it has missed its release date - it was stated it would be released when it's done. People just like to jump on the bandwagon and trash talk the game.

So you're saying the current DNF is the same as the QII engine game they first showed off over a decade ago? Give me a break. It's not about game engines, it's about basic design and contents.
When it comes to contents, DNF is more or less the same game, yes.
Whereas TF2 is not the game anymore. Valve just stopped working on TF2, told nobody about it. Then they made "something funny reminding of Team Fortress", called it TF2 and proudly told everybody: "Look - IT'S DONE."
No, it isn't done. It's gone. The released TF2 is not the realistic military team shooter that it was intended to be.
Can you see the difference? It's not about how long it took, not about the engine, it's about the main design and the gameplay. And that is where DNF is closer to its roots than TF2 is to what was once promised in articles and presented in screenshots over a loooong time.
Sorry, if I can't make it any clearer. I'm not a native English speaker/writer, so it's pretty hard for me to put my thoughts into the appropriate words and sentences.

dont compare tf timeline to dnf, between original tf and tf2 there was tfc and other mods for games like q3a that basically resembled tf. plus dnf is already taking about 3-4 years longer than time between qwtf and tf2.

What part of "not interested in you" don't you understand 3DR? If "guy with 3700 posts on gaming message board is tired of media releases" isn't enough reason to immediately halt news of the game to the entire industry, I don't know what is! Add to that the somewhat frightening behaviour here of people talking directly to corporate entities like they are actively listening to this thread, and we've got a recipe on how to market a game... right?
Excuse me, I have to go yell at my bottle of Mrs. Buttersworth pancake syrup now, they've been kind of low quality as of late.

DNF could be a surprise hit; I'm still open minded about it. Team Fortress 2 was delayed for an absurdly long time also and that turned out to be a great game. Bad comparison. The original "Team Fortress 2" was intended to be a quite realistic military teamplay shooter. There are enough screenshots and old articles to verify this. What was later released, was something very, VERY different. They called it "Team Fortress 2" to get rid of all gamers reminding them of "Hey, which will be out first? Team Fortress 2 oder Duke Nukem 4ever?" So they just realeased this "thing" and called it "TF2".
Whereas DNF is supposed to come out as DNF. So, you're comparing apples to oranges there.
Unless 3DRealms releases a jump-and-run-sidescroller game and calls it "Duke Nukem 4ever". Like Valve, just to quieten all sarcastic comments.

I'll admit it: I want DNF, and no matter how long it fucking takes: I want DNF. I will buy the game, I'm still interested, and the screens look awesome (except the poor photo quality of course)
