A new Spore trailer shows off the space phase from EA Maxis' imminent
strategic life simulation. The gameplay clip features exploration, combat and
various views of what seem to be itty-bitty planets, along with narration from
producer Kip Katsarelis explaining what's going on. The movie is posted on
AtomicGamer and
Gamer's Hell. On a
semi-related note,
CNET has a reminder for Mac owners that the Macintosh edition of Spore will
require an Intel CPU and the Leopard operating system.

In conclusion the 3 installation rule means that the game can only be installed on 3 different computers but on any one of those computers can it be installed 3 or more times. Again, what constitutes a "different computer"?
Still no money from me.
edit: If hardware is being changed, at what point does (based on your example) computer A become computer D?

You can install Spore on computer -A- as many times as you like You can install Spore on computer -B- as many times as you like You can install Spore on computer -C- as many times as you like You cannot install Spore on computer -D- at all if you have already installed Spore on computer -A, B and C-.
This means that if you install Spore on computer -A- and your computer crashes you can install it again, this being the second time you installed the game Spore. Now suppose your computer crashes again. You can install Spore again now this is your third time that Spore has been installed on computer -A-. Now again suppose your computer crashes. You can still install Spore even with this being your fourth time doing so. This example can continue on for computer -A- as well as -B- and -C-, but NOT -D-
In conclusion the 3 installation rule means that the game can only be installed on 3 different computers but on any one of those computers can it be installed 3 or more times.
**got this off of the Spore forums.**

who were the dumbfucks saying this game wouldnt be censored? there were a couple around here.. so for their edification:
GS: Nice riposte. Now one of things you must know about is the large number of X-rated, anatomically correct "Sporn" creatures that have been made with the Spore Creature Creator. Are you guys cracking down on that?
FG: Ah, sporn. Well, we have filters and parental controls, so if people are of age, they can see it if they want to see it. On our servers, we've got very vigorous controls and are going to keep it out. But you can create whatever you want and upload it to YouTube. That's the beauty of Spore, in a way--it goes where your creativity takes you, and isn't limited to a game design. Basically, publishing Spore is like selling crayons. What you draw with them, I can't help. |

I'll be picking this one up on Sunday; the first of many titles I'll be buying over the next 2-2.5 months.

three times on three different computers. I dont see the big deal some are making out of this. You shouldnt have to install your copy on three different computers. What constitutes a "different computer"? If I reload the OS, is it a different computer? If I upgrade the motherboard, is it a different computer?
Of course, EA isn't saying.
If I spend $50 on a game, I shouldn't be treated like a thief by the publisher, while the warez monkeys get a pass.
Copy protection only hurts paying customers, and I won't have anything to do with Spore.

If it's anything like Bioshock, the restriction will (hopefully) get lifted a year or so down the track.
It's an interesting game. I know people already playing through the Space Phase. I've been doing a few restarts as things you do in cell phase determine what you are in creature phase. It's fun .... but not as freeform/sandbox as the original video led you to believe.
EDIT: Oh ... and it was released on Monday in Australia, so I'm playing a legit version. I ain't no STEEEEEKING PIRATE

Ozmodan: If that is true, ouch.
However, I know I want this game, and I will buy it, and if it ever goes "poof" I know that I won't feel bad when I have to crack it.
These purchases need a better middle ground though; definitely.

Anyone that buys this game needs their head examined. You only get 3 installs and then game goes poof.
Worst form of copy protection ever. The really dumb thing, it only effects legitimate users, the hackers will have this game hacked and patched in no time.
If EA has to resort to this horrid protection scheme, I will vote with my pocketbook and boycott all such games.
