A collection of five new Fallout 3 movies is now available, showing off
several environments in Bethesda's upcoming post-apocalyptic RPG sequel. The
clips can be found on the
Fallout Website
and mirrored on
AtomicGamer.
On a related note, there's a
Fallout 3 Interview on GamersGlobal discussing the game with Bethesda's Pete
Hines, who fills in some details about the V.A.T.S. system, responds to
comparisons with Oblivion, gives details on locations, and says that further
continuations of the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series are basically a foregone
conclusion.

Surf -- why look for literal reality in this game where there are zombies, etc. The developer went for big explosions when a car is bombed. Certainly not a game breaker.

Well, shooting the rear of a car or the doors should not result in an explosion. Christ if the cars were that volatile imagine a car accident at 20 mph?
get it?

these videos changed my mind about Fallout 3. There's some inkling of depth to the skills and perks and there appear to be a varied assortment of weapons. I liked the minigame for cracking passwords since it requires at least some thought. The only issue left unaddressed -- even after looking at the videos -- is the quality of the enemy AI. Mass Effect's AI was mostly brain-dead regardless of difficulty level and that can kill a game like this, especially if it takes 30 hours to complete. So, some cautious optimism is merited.
Btw, the 5th video shows pickpocketing skills

I sure hate the exploding cars. Fuel would have evaporated in the explosion much less over years of sitting in a wasteland. Didn't you pay attention whilst playing either of the Fallout games? Cars run on nuclear fusion - which is demonstrated by the small mushroom cloud when the cars explode.
As for the stupid number of crits/insta-deaths, I'm just assuming at the moment that they ramped the player skills up for demonstration purposes. After all, it wouldn't be much of a developed demo if the guy got killed by the first mole-rat he encountered.
Also, isn't the whole player generation thing a bit pointless if you can just revamp it just before you leave the vault? But then even Morrowind did the whole 'are you really really really really sure?' thing.

So we should all be happy something is coming out at least. After the abomination that was Brotherhood of Steel, I don't think that logic really applies.

its not about 3d or 2d, its about insanely brutal and deadly combat, hundreds of non-linear multiple solution quests and a gargantuan labyrinthine dialog system - thats the essence of Fallout
bethesdas version dont have that
looks fun anyways tho |

I for one am glad Bethesda got the Fallout license and is trying to modernize the game. If it was between NO fallout or Bethesda's fallout, i for one am glad they are doing it their way. I want the full 3D view, not the 2D crap anymore.
So we should all be happy something is coming out at least.

I'm somewhat hopeful again after watching all the videos. They were slightly entertaining. And since I'm going through WAR with-drawls I'm bored.
Though the videos had little to nothing that made them feel like the old games the game looks fairly well done as far as the wasteland goes.
Not sure if you should assume everyone is a hardened soldier just because they live in a PA game-world. Hardened killers maybe... but I'm not saying the AI looked fabulous either.
I wasn't interested in the least bit after the last videos. At least now I've got a slight interest in seeing the game played on a powerhouse PC. My hopes are officially raised... though just slightly.

i noticed there is no "pick pocket" or "stealing" skill.. so it looks like that part of the game is out.. No, I think they just combined it with the Sneak skill. You can see the player pickpocketing a ghoul in the Tenpenny Tower video.
its also clear that they are counting on the bloody dismemberment deaths to be a huge draw for the game, kinda like Soldier of Fortune was back in its time I don't think he had the Bloody Mess perk in the demonstration. In the E3 demo, he did and every enemy exploded regardless of where you shot them. In this demo, dismemberment was location-specific and only seemed to occur during critical fatal hits (though, there were an awful lot of critical hits).

i wonder if they think that a pipe sticking from the teeth of that guy on the website is going to win them some points with a certain section of the population
re movies:
also as i suspected from the getgo, the dialog is afterthought at best - you get to pick from 1 - 3 responses consisting of a sentence or two each
it looks like a post apocalyptic oblivion, but the NPCs dont look "right" at all, the characters move like drowsy marionettes - and everything has a slow, floaty sheen to it.. its odd
its also clear that they are counting on the bloody dismemberment deaths to be a huge draw for the game, kinda like Soldier of Fortune was back in its time
looks like it will be a fun action game, but i have serious doubts it will truly be a "Fallout" game in terms of questing and scope and so forth

Very much reminded me of Oblivion. Didn't nearly look as atmospheric as Stalker, but overall the game look better than Stalker.
Compared the Mass Effect, the talking and animation of the characters is a huge let down. Through the entire Mass Effect game I never got sick of the dialogue or voice acting, in Oblivion it got very repititious but still was good and amazing.
Fallout 3, Oblivion with guns.

Aren't you being a bit TOO nitpicky now? Not at all. Think about how often you'll be gaining experience and how often you'll be hearing the cash register sound.

I have heard they wont be released with the game & should be released a few months down the road.
I think some enterprising modder out there (like Wrye) will have no problem hacking up some program that simply lets you import all the Fallout 3 stuff into the Oblivion toolset and mod to your heart's content.
Plus, a ton of the Oblivion mods were made using tools written by the community.
I wouldn't worry.

I don't want to hear that one voice actor ever.. ever again.
I do hope Bethesta has learned that using a pool of 6 voice actors for 300 hours of voice work is not a good idea of you ever want those voice actors to get work again lol.
As to Fallout. The attention to detail looks solid and the gameplay good. If they get the shooting down, and add a little bit of a STALKER feel, then I'll be buying the game eagerly.

[10) SFX whenever you gain experience are annoying.

I'll wait with picking this up until a few months down the road, when there will be 5,000 Mods available for it that turn it into a PC Game, rather than a 360 game.
It looks like I'll be losing a large portion of my time to the next X game anyways.
