The Frontlines Website has
another update on the patch in the works for Frontlines: Fuel of War that
will update the modern combat shooter to version 1.20. The post says the patch
is due in September, and goes on to offer further details on the Phase 2 updates
for the server browser and the Server Commander dedicated server tools.
Another update mentions that
the login servers for the game will be offline for maintenance on Thursday
between about 8:30 am and 11:00 am EDT.

I ment more that the game is cursed by having that "I'm playing an Unreal engine game" feel that many games which use the Unreal engine have, it's not a good feeling, to me anyway.
Player movement didn't feel fluid enough, giving the weapons full screen scoped view seemed cheesy, forcing team play down your throat by making some classes weaker and more reliant on other team members, I mentoned the lack luster vehicle physics and handling, I felt the pacing of the game didn't match up with the use of the drones - a fast paced twitch shooter that sort of wanted to be a slower tactical game at the same time, the squad system wasn't as intuitive as BF2's nor as useful.

I think that it's more a case of, if you already have COD4, why would you bother with another shooter that's pretty much the same, but with lower production values and gameplay that doesn't hold up against it either?
While I agree that CoD4 is superior to Frontlines, I think they are trying more to be like the BF or SW: Battlefront series.
Also, one thing that cannot happen at all in Frontlines (and is a good thing) is the 'rollover' effect you'll see in CoD4 where a player will be able to use their helicopter and kill another 7 people (is it 7 or 9? cannot remember), whereby they are able to instantly use the helicopter again. Enough people on the map and they can just do this multiple times. It's just annoying, I don't care what side you're on.

I agree that the vehicles are clunky, and that it's ridiculous that they finally will be adding joystick support. However, even though it uses the Unreal 3 engine, it does not feel at all like unreal tournament 3. It's a different pace all together; not frenetic like UT 3, and not as realistic (if you can call it that) as BF2. But a couple of things are fun that I like. You get to use robot remotes (remote helicopters or mini tanks) if you choose that 'role' on spawn and you get to 'see' through their camera.
You have multiple classes to choose from, and when you get kills or conquer an area on the map you gain experience towards powered up functions of the role you chose. These effects you gain are a one time shot that slowly 'charges' back up over time. You start with a first level effect, and with more kills/experience a second and a third will become available to you.
For example, you can choose an air support role and the first level for that role is a precision missle or bomb that will destroy a unit in one hit (note that you CAN miss). The second level would be a cluster bomb and the third level is a gunship. Well, that's what the West has. The Russians 2nd level is a carpet bomb and their third level is a fuel air bomb.
The main gametype is Frontlines, where unlike a conquest game, you must attack specific areas on the map; when you get that area, your frontline moves forward.
The downsides to the game is that there isn't a commander role for your team, you won't see many people forming squads though it's available and like others said it had a rough start with so so reviews, so not as many people initially bought the game on the PC side. Support has been slow going which hurts it even more, and they are finally going to implement a patch soon that enables joystick support, adds options to the server list screen and adds more official maps + the conquest game type.
While it has similar gameplay features that the Battlefield or Star Wars Battlefront series has, it definitely has a different feel. You should give it a try - at least the demo if it's available.

It’s actually more like, if you already have Battlefield 2 than you really don’t need this game, despite the hate of all things EA and the bugs (never had much problem with BF2 myself) I’d rather play BF2 than Frontlines any day.
Frontlines is too far into the arcade shooter spectrum, I suppose it’s great for the ADD crowd but this game feels like a re-skinned unreal tournament game, it’s hard to believe this game is from the guys who made Desert Combat and actually helped work on BF2.
Maybe it’s just the side-effect of using the Unreal engine and its Physx physics but the vehicles are extremely clunky, and again makes them feel like re-skinned UT vehicles.
These guys need to boot up their Desert Combat mod and take a closer look as to what they did right and ask themselves why they couldn’t have recreated that success in Frontlines.

It's a console port. I played the demo on the 360 a while back. Aside from the drones, which were kinda fun, it was pretty much the same as any other console shooter.

Is it a console port? I thought it was an Unreal mod that went commercial, so presumably born on the PC. I maybe wrong. I was in the beta and could rarely get connected to games and when I did, it was the usual stuff.

What I don't understand is why they're giving the game all this loving now when they really should have just kept it in the oven a bit longer and not had to deal with this rubbish... THAT. its like THQ put a bullet in the games head before it was released by not finishing it. and then once its released, taken it to hospital and cared for it. why not just avoid the bullet in the head in the first place!
any sort of following this game could have had was killed off with its buggy release. personally i think they should just cut their losses and start something new.
and yes i bought the game and wish i could get my money back.

I've been playing the demo off and on for 2 months. Only reason I don't buy it is because the demo is good enough to get your fix without needing more, unless you plan on playing it consistently.
