Xbox Exclusive Portal Game

A surprising announcement at the Microsoft press conference was made by GLaDOS herself: That Portal: Still Alive is coming exclusively to the Xbox 360 this year. Here's what she said: "Hello, we hope you've enjoyed your brief detention in the press event room. The Aperture Science Test Center is pleased to announce the worldwide debut of Portal: Still Alive, a 2008 exclusive for the Xbox 360. Due to the previous tests being solvable, we are currently manufacturing new test chambers for only the most qualified test subjects. Good Luck." She specifically calls this a "2008 exclusive" for the Xbox 360, and since computers don't make mistakes, we'll take this as a sign that this will appear on other platforms after the end of the year.

Folks valve isn't even mentioned in this. Sounds to me that M$ payed them a lot of money so that one of their in house development groups could make an exclusive Portal game.

Besides that.. you all KNOW playing Portal on anything but a keyboard/mouse would be extremely limiting and thus the puzzles are likely to be super easy.

New maps (cp_fastlane, ctf_turbine, pl_goldrush, ctf_well), new achievements, new unlocks, balancing alterations, extra texture resolution, custom server browser, etc. Not only that but we have another 7 classes to go, with presumably new maps to boot (both classes so far have included new maps).

It is basically nothing especially when you realize that it's actually only playable on ONE of the game's official maps.
I choose to mostly play 2fort (because I enjoy it most) but judging by the server lists, including plenty with custom maps, most people DON'T just play 2fort.

You still paid too much for too little.
It's up to the individual as to whether it offered value for money and I, like many others, am VERY happy with my purchase. Cheaper than most games and it included THREE awesome new games, plus HL2 / Ep1.

If you've spend hundreds of hours replaying the tired gameplay and paltry content in TF2, then yes, you certainly don't know what a real, full game is.
Back to the Valve bashing I see? Oh well, we really can expect nothing better from you. It's really sad that you get off on pissing over other people's enjoyment. Most gamers love Valve games and hold them as some of the best in gaming history (as do the reviews). It's fine that you disagree but it's pathetic that you have to deride all that like Valve games, trolling at every opportunity possible. You need to grow up and sort your life out.

    A few minor bug fixes
A few?! LOL! You really have a knack for the understatement. I suggest you go back and actually read through the change logs for all of the TF updates. It's closer to a few dozen or hundred bugfixes than to just a few.

and a whole shitload of gameplay tweaks that could never have been decided on before
Sure those gameplay tweaks and decisions could have been determined beforehand IF Valve's developers were actually competent and/or properly managed. TF2 is based on at least ten year old gameplay. Its gameplay is far from radically new or innovative so most if not all of the tweaks made certainly could have been forseen or caught in testing before release.

Ah, silly me. 6 new weapons
More like six minor variations of or replacements for the weapons already in the game.

a couple of great new maps
One new map (which is actually a remake of an old TFC map) and two maps made by some users. Wow, that's just an awesome display of game content creation in nine months. It certainly lives up to your "tons of new content" billing.

an awesome new gameplay mode is nothing.
It is basically nothing especially when you realize that it's actually only playable on ONE of the game's official maps.

yet I only paid $37 for Orange Box
You still paid too much for too little. You just happen to be slightly less stupid than the idiots who paid $50 or more or $30 for TF2 alone.

Hundreds of hours of TF2, Episode Two, and Portal for $37? I don't know what a "real, full game tastes like"
If you've spend hundreds of hours replaying the tired gameplay and paltry content in TF2, then yes, you certainly don't know what a real, full game is.

Valve hasn't released tons of content for TF2.
Ah, silly me. 6 new weapons, a couple of great new maps, an awesome new gameplay mode is nothing. I forgot, sorry!

Tons of bug fixes and gameplay changes for a game which was supposedly years in development and thoroughly playtested and tweaked before release, yes.
A few minor bug fixes, and a whole shitload of gameplay tweaks that could never have been decided on before having millions of people play your game and contribute feedback
Even after nine months of patches TF2 still has less actual content than any other major PC game from other developers I can think of and even less than some if not most team fortress mods for other games. If any other major game developer had released a game like TF2 that is essentially a simplified retread of a ten-year-old Quake mod with no single-player functionality, only three gameplay modes with one of them being tired old CTF, and a paltry seven maps (all of which aren't even playable in all three gameplay modes) and had the gall to sell it for $30, they'd be laughed right out of the market. The only reason Valve gets away with shit like that is because so many of you lackeys have eaten Valve's shit for so long that you don't know what a real, full game should taste like
And yet, I've somehow put hundreds of incredibly fun hours into TF2, yet I only paid $37 for Orange Box! I've played a crapload of incredible mods for the Quake series, Half-Life series, Unreal Tournament series, and more, and no amount of 10+ map selections from any of those mods stacks up to the amount of fun I've gotten from 8 official maps in TF2.

But you're right. Hundreds of hours of TF2, Episode Two, and Portal for $37? I don't know what a "real, full game tastes like"

I really have to disagree. I loved HL1 and finished HL2, but I really didn't enjoy HL2 at all. I bought HL2 when it was first released and absolutely hated the fact that I had to use Steam to play it. I remember the forums here blowing up with people talking about how much they hate Steam -- and I was one of them. When Orange Box was released, I refused to even look at it the first month after it was released because of how it was connected with Steam, but I finally bit the bullet after hearing friends talking about Portal. I finished Portal a day after I purchased Orange Box, and didn't touch anything else until literally a month later, when I tried TF2. As it turns out, I really like(d) TF2. It's much less spammy that UT, and honestly feels closer to Quake gameplay, which, I guess, is why I enjoy it so much. I love the art style, and it runs great on both my laptop and desktop.

With that said, I don't think it's fair to say that only Valve fanboys like TF2. I really didn't like Valve solely because of Steam up until this point.

They release tons of content for TF2
Valve hasn't released tons of content for TF2. Tons of bug fixes and gameplay changes for a game which was supposedly years in development and thoroughly playtested and tweaked before release, yes. Tons of meaningless, trivial tasks to "accomplish" in the game, yes. But, actual, bona fide game content such as new maps, character models, and gameplay modes? No. In the nine months since the game's release, Valve has released all of three new maps and two of those are just maps made by some users. I don't need to ask you that question because you've already amply demonstrated that you are one.

Valve are one of the people saying "PC gaming isn't dead and we have Steam stats to back that up".

Don't smash your lower jaw with a kneejerk reaction.

The "death of pc's" cake is a lie... ; )

That's all you have to say in return? Nice. The only denial I'm seeing here is the one who denies that Valve wouldn't ignore PC success that brought them more sales than both consoles combined, and uses a freaking map pack as a reason for doubting them.

My fear is that because it's specifically 360 this time, the timing puzzles will be toned down.
The maps that came with Portal were pretty easy to begin with. If you want something challenging, try the user maps.

Which is more of a display of the above traits, having an opinion about something, or thinking that someone else's opinion differing from yours makes them retarded?

Seriously, lets discuss the gaming news without the personal attacks, okay? Save that for something important like TV shows or favorite car color.

I played Portal on the 360. While it definitely would have been easier on PC, the only really rough part was the map where you have to bounce yourself like 4 times in different directions.
I played in on the 360 awhile back and think I knew the exact part you're talking about. But other than that one sub room, yeah, it was fine...

That's pretty classic.

I'm excited either way, even though it will be impossible on a console controller.

This is a shame. Valve was one of the last holdouts in the PC market. Hopefully this doesn't mean they are taking a "console first" mentality for the future. Oh well.
Are you an idiot?

Seriously, are you fucking retarded?

They release tons of content for TF2, the best version of Orange Box for $23 less if you preordered it, they have 7 of 9 more classes still left to beef up in TF2, and none of that has come to consoles. None of it.

Left 4 Dead will include brand new Steam features and probably far more post-release content on the PC.

But they announce one map pack that will probably come to PC right alonside the 360, and suddenly Valve is taking a "console first" mentality?

God, what a bunch of fucking whiners.
