After the above statement you clearly show your lack of knowledge about Stalker.

I wasn't talking about Stalker, that much was painfully obvious to anybody with an IQ over 50 or with a kindergarten student's reading comprehension. Perhaps you are the one showing your "lack of knowledge" by considering Stalker to be anything like Counter-Strike and Savage.

Don't ever post on here, or anywhere for that matter.... again.

Coming from an infamous asshole who contributes absolutely nothing positive to this website, and has even had many of his own posts deleted by Blue himself, your comments are absolute dross. Go shove a cookie up your ass to replace all the calories you burn board warrioring 24 hours a day, then come back and try to make a constructive post for the first time in your pathetic puke excuse for a life.

Surf I think he was referring to left 4 dead. That time of the month again?

QFT, thanks Half Elf.

That being said, happy 4th of July everyone!

You sure about that? The only test case I have is Crysis and in that case, the DX10 "exclusive" effects were achievable in DX9 and with better performance. I have yet to see any other game where people bothered to unlock the effects for DX9 but I'd be genuinely surprised if they ran worse than in DX10.
You are right about the Crysis example, but that came at a time where drivers were still very new and very slow, and not to mention all of the problems Vista had with graphics before SP1 was released. Remember that those effects were available in Crysis specificially because Crytek had programmed them into the DX9 codebase to test them before implementing them in DX10.

The entire point of DX10 is a complete re-write of the way graphics are handled by the overhauled display driver device model in Vista. It's not meant to add new and pretty effects to graphics, but rather do what could already be done far more efficiently.

If you look at Crysis now, and run the game with identical detail levels on Vista in both DX9 and DX10, you'll see that DX10 is actually much faster now with the latest patch, drivers, and SP1. I'm talking about running the game at High detail in DX9, and then High detail in DX10, not Very High details.

With Clear Sky, the same should hold true now that drivers and Vista are more mature. If GSC uses DX10 effectively and efficiently, then there is nothing arbitrary about the DX10 requirement for some of the advanced effects. Yes, those effects could all be done in DX9, but not without reprogramming them to do so, and not without some severe performance hits.

I'm in Canada and want a CE but I believe we won't. I bet it's because they still think America didn't liked the last game (from stats POV). That suck.

Germany is getting it.

well its simple: the games i like, the games i buy.

if a game that i wanted (eg. crysis, stalker) generates me doubts, i pirate it first to see how it comes out.

the point is: i pirated and stopped playing after 2 weeks both games. both unfinished products (the stopped support for the single player part) and for at least, both boring games.

regarding wich games i did buy: entire valve pack over steam for example. they keep updating the games (there are a lot of games on that pack), the games are superb (they do not need super graphics to play good) and they are not expensive.
i also have diablo2+lod,starcraft+broodwars,warcraft3, that are terrific games.

no doubt valve and blizzard are not complaining about games sales.

better clear sky comes out polished and FUN, because it seems a good game (in theory)

Stalker was a buggy unfinished game, but it was a far better game than Crysis. Im kind of sad that they chose to go down the path of "uber" graphics. Seems like most games that go that way tend to end up rather shallow and "half-baked" gameplay wise.

I have a nifty blue line!

"and a game that is pretty much Savage or Counter-Strike, but with zombies"

After the above statement you clearly show your lack of knowledge about Stalker. Zombies did not encompass the entire game at all, they were a part.

Lets cut the shit. Don't ever post on here, or anywhere for that matter.... again.

This, Crysis Warhead, Left for Dead, and the Enhanced version of The Witcher are on my list of games to get this year.
Yup, pc gaming is pretty dead

2 expansions *for the most part*, one re release of an existing game with some updates *pretty new box and throw the word "gold" or "extreme" in there, make more money*, and a game that is pretty much Savage or Counter-Strike, but with zombies.

I don't know if this is really a valid argument for PC Gaming not being dead, haha.

Yes, anything done in DX10 can also be done in DX9, but not without massive performance differences.

I have yet to finish the first one but have played it through repeatedly due to hard drive wipes and system rebuilds. Now I got to finish the last ten or twelve hours of play before I pick this one up.

Hope a few more developers license this engine. It would make a great cRPG. Too bad Piranha Bytes didn't just license it so they could spend more time polishing and less time building their last engine.

Either way it would have been pre-ordered already but GameStop (I miss your EBGames) didn't have a SKU (or whatever they call it) in their system.

This game is amazingly beautiful. STALKER was one of my favorite games of 2007, and Clear Sky is one of my most anticipated for 2008!

Man this game is taking forever to come out!
What are you talking about? At the beginning of this year, they said Summer, and they announced the August 31st release date in March. It's still March now, four months later.

Unfortunately, all those fancy effects are DX10 only. Hopefully somebody will figure out a way to crack the arbitrary requirement and unlock them in DX9.
How is the requirement "arbitrary"? Yes, anything done in DX10 can also be done in DX9, but not without massive performance differences. The only reason why Crysis' DX10 effects were able to be done in DX9 is because Crytek specifically programmed them into the DX9 code as a way to test them out first.

Most excellent, and a new ATI video card on the way for me to enjoy this newest installment of STALKER. Time once again to embrace the madness and horror.
Consoles are schwag.

Last week I was contemplating either Call of Juarez or Beyond Good and Evil for ten bucks and had decided that 'Beyond' was going to get my money when on 'impulse' I downloaded STALKER from steam for twenty bucks instead.

I had some technical issues that I finally solved last night and it looks like I can run this at medium to high settings. I'm not much of a graphics whore so here's hoping this game will shine despite its flaws.

I'll look at Clear Sky after I get finished with this.

Though much of what was in that video has been seen before, the STALKER engine is truly remarkable. Probably neck-in-neck with the CryENGINE II in terms of detail.

Anyway, I hope this fixes a lot of the problems with the first game. I'm looking forward to it, especially since having recently upgraded my PC.
