In other Blizzard speculation, Best Buy's listing for StarCraft II now carries a release date, saying December 3, 2008 is when to expect the real-time strategy sequel. A grain of salt is not included, but skepticism is probably in order until an official announcement arrives. Thanks Mike Martinez and Joystiq.

	I thought we figured this out about 10 years ago. Release dates from retailers mean nothing. Yup. But some of us have actually advanced in time and aren't still stuck in our mom's basement where the realities of life around us don't catch up with us . Retailer dates might have been inaccurate until a few years ago but those times have long gone. Gaming has become a big business where retail shelf space needs to be rented months in advance and where manufacturer/retailer resources need to be allocated a long time before the product ships. You can't just dump a few 100K copies of a product on Wal-Mart or EB Games in a surprise move. You need to plan carefully and manage the logistics professionally nowadays. That's why the big publishers send advance info to the retailers via product catalogues with pretty accurate release dates. Of course, there can always be a "last minute" (last minute = usually a few weeks before the anticipated release date) delay but if a date has been set in stone then it's usually fairly accurate and coming from the publisher. Naturally, it's always subject to change but I wouldn't be surprised if the SC2 date is very accurate. SC2 is a mega launch so the retailers need an extra-extra-extra advance warning to get their shit together for "S-day". That's why we can be pretty sure as of now that December 3 is indeed the date...

	Retailer release dates mean jack shit. Duke Nukem Forever has been listed with release dates on EB games and Amazon before.

	Gamestop / EB and Circuit City list the same release date as well. Hmmm, wonder if Vivendi put out the date to keep them happy? And there still hasn't been any info about a beta. This message was edited at Jun 23, 14:20.

	Actually in the last several years the retailers have been pretty spot on with release dates. Unless the game is delayed, I imagine the publishers have direct line to communicate this info to the retailers.

	Blizz ain't gonna release this during a 6 month period around WotLK or D3, so december of this year might be accurate. I don't see WotLK coming out this year and D3 won't be until late next year? 2010? ---- Life is tough. It's tougher if you're stupid. - John Wayne
