netGameRadio has some advance hype
for a Battlefield 2 announcement that will reveal plans for a new patch
that will include "exciting original maps" (thanks Ant and
Planet
Battlefield). The announcement is expected tomorrow on what they say
coincides with the third anniversary of the launch of the military shooter
sequel, though that seems to be off by a couple of days ( story).

They are putting together a map pack and update.
[Battlefield 2] Battlefield 2 celebrates its three year anniversary
With over 15 million player accounts being created since release, Battlefield 2 is still going strong. On the forums we often see discussions about whether there will ever be another update for the game. Well, today we are happy to announce that we are working on an update for Battlefield 2. We are planning to provide an open beta in the near future and we hope you’ll give us your feedback before final release; so watch out for that.
Keep an eye on www.Battlefield.com for information on what we are working on, release dates and don’t forget to visit our forums.
In the mean time Battlefield Bad Company is released worldwide this week and we expect it will keep you occupied while we work on the update.

Okay let me tell you how cd keys work.
The standalone game can authenticate a key. By authenticate it means "could the key inputted possibly have been generated legitimately? Does it fit my algorithm?" A cracker keygen would give you a key that passes this test.
Now some server is used to authenticate the key. By authenticate it means "was the key inputted actually a key that was generated and put into a box? Let's check my key database..." A key gen has a very tiny chance of giving you a key that 1) was actually generated by the company by chance 2) has not already been used by someone else.

Whatever happened to banning CD-Keys? Was anybody else but me shocked after hearing infinity ward crying about how many people are playing CoD4 multiplayer with illigit keys? If they can't ban illigit keys, what the hell is the point of us having to put up with unique CD-Keys written in impossible to read typesets (is that a G or a 6?? a 0 or an o? an l or a 1?) for all these years? I've always known cd-keys in singleplayer games to be pointless without activation but COME ON! Multiplayer games MUST talk to a server that can validate the key! Aren't illegitimate keys ones that are a) copied from a legit purchase or b) generated using a keygen? In either case, key-banning would likely push a legit user off the game and, if there really is a plethora of keys, that could piss off a lot of real paying customers.

One of the greatest online games ever made has been brought down to its knees by rampant hackers. they're cheaters. calling them hackers gives them too much credit. 99.999% of the little bastards just download the utility off of some website.

This is great news for fans of Battlefield 2! A lot of people are still playing this game because it's good and performs well on today's hardware, etc..

It's a shame because this game was really fantastic in the first few months....before the dark times..before the Empire!

" I dont know whatchu all be 'plaining about. BF2 is great. I've 1070 hours into it over 3 years. I've seen some red bug stuff, and just adapted, I've seen a couple dozen jeeps fall from the sky every once and while.. big deal. The server restarts, or I move to a new one. Or just just enjoy it. Its not that bad. Bf2 was a great buy, and has lots of great gameplay and competitiveness to it.
This is great news, new maps.. I hope they put an oldie in there. It would be nice if they had a new game mode too."
Sounds like a typical EA employee. He will learn....

Someone asks John Hargelid if there will be a patch with some new maps or new gameplay modes, and all he says is there will be something "announced" on Monday. I'm hoping they might put out a new map but it could be as meaningless as a rerelease of the collector's edition. In any case, I can't see why they would be spending money on fixing any of the bugs in the current game, too expensive and no return on that investment.

Is this the patch that makes the game good? Not quite. This will be the patch where EA beta-tests their BF:Heroes micro transaction system. They'll start selling hacks on a monthly rental basis; $5 for unlimited jeeps, $10 for automatic repairing commander gear, $20 for wallhacks, and for $50 you get the complete package, including aimbots, firing through walls, and user-toggleable invulnerability.
This will allow them to test their system and get a cut of the lucrative pay-for-cheating market at the same time.

The information from the interview is actually pretty poor, so it is hard to say what we can really expect in the official announcement on Monday. The related part: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7gM9PhU4Tk

Hey you ungrateful nitwit, maybe this shit is what they're fixing in the patch? It's been in a state for years and suddenly this patch is going to fix all the issues? Doesn't seem likely to me. This is just an excuse to get some positive PR after they killed the game off far too early with BF2142. I love the gameplay of the series but EA has fucked the series over so many times I don't dare trust them again. Shame, cos a Battlefield 3 could be great.

One of the greatest online games ever made has been brought down to its knees by rampant hackers. It is impossible to play a game of BF2 without seeing 50 jeeps falling from the sky, people shooting you through walls, destroying enemy installations such as radar and artillery only to see it restore within 2 seconds right before your very eyes.
People would still play this game today if it wasn't for the bullshit hacks that EA doesn't even acknowledge exists. Hey you ungrateful nitwit, maybe this shit is what they're fixing in the patch?
What's the point, you ask? Well, what the fuck is the point of you bitching and moaning in every single damn thread on Blue's?
