Ah - I have the v3 - standard run of the mill. But I have a cable and software to pimp it out. I put 1-2 pics on it and a different ring all for free. (oh, and my phone - and the lady's was free - I don't believe in paying for a phone AND service.)
I don't use web browser, I don't text. It rings, I answer I hang up.
ATT Cingular in the MN/WISC area has been the best cell phone experience I have had in a lOOOONG time.
I had Sprint/Nextel last, and it was a nightmare, but I guess that is why they are posting major losses. Verizon is iffy, and they are the most expensive.

I have had a "work" cell phone since July 2000 and I dread the day when I leave this job and have to go get my own cell phone -- which will probably be late next year.
Do they make cell phones that are just phones anymore? I don't want a camera or a music box, I'll want a phone. Man, is it going to suck when I have to deal with this...

If I had to go with a new service provider my first choice would be ATT/Cingular. Thanks HE and Bats (so far). I haven't really heard, at least around here, too many good things regarding quality of service with ATT/Cingular, but I'll check 'em out anyway. And no, I'm not shelling out my stimulus check for an iPhone (much as I love how that thing works...).
(Whether it was the service - ATT/Cingular - or the phone itself, a coworker's husband bought for their daughter an iPhone for her birthday. At the time, at least, a signal was only available either outside the house.... or in their basement! Hopefully this has improved as of late....)
Well, off to my mother's and then to hospital... whee!
EDIT: Whoops, also meant to add in response to Bats' statement:
You should be able to download a diff firmware and haxor the phone anyway....cables are like 4.00 on ebay. The point for me is to not give Verizon, or their wireless division anyway, my hard-earned cash, and give it to some other, slightly more benevolent carrier.

I know what ya mean Dan. I just got a Blackberry Pearl 8130, and I was checking out what all it could and couldn't do. I notice there is a web browser but I have to jump hoops just to open it. I finally get it open and it says I have no net provider setup.
So I call Sprint and it seems when they activated the phone they gave it a code for my old LG phone and 'some' of the features were disabled. So it takes them 10 min to get the right code, then they tell me to turn off the phone and remove the battery.
Well the phone comes back on and I suddenly have about 10 more applications that I didn't have before.
Now the phone itself is just a fucking pain in the ass, and scince I'm still within my 30 days I'm taking it back. Doing simple things like adjusting the ring tones etc was a nightmare, and if I had the phone on vibrate+tone, the phone would vibrate 3 times THEN ring and by that time the person calling was sent to voicemail before I could get to the phone.
And having to signup for blackberry messenger and email has been a pain in the ass as well.
Now my roomies Mogul is just awesome. It runs Windows and has a slide out full keyboard with large keys, touch screen with stylus etc.
Granted I've had good service with Sprint the last few years, the whole 'features locked' issue, and not having data network connection at Orlando International Airport (no net at all) really has me reconsidering them.
If I had to go with a new service provider my first choice would be ATT/Cingular.

I'm considering seriously going with another wireless carrier, as Verizon is continually locking down phone features that I feel should be open and available to its customers... a bit of (brief) history:
I had a Motorola Razr V3m for the last year-and-a-half without any issues through Verizon, with the default Verizon firmware at the time... it wasn't great, but I had Bluetooth capability for my headset, could (and still can) use pics I've taken with the camera as the phone's background and - this is the big one for me - record sounds and use those recorded sounds as ringtones (e.g. me saying "Ring ring ring" - I was too cheap to pay for another ringtone, and hate the ones that come with the phone).
The battery in that phone had seemed to die and refused to charge... okay, so I stopped by Verizon last Friday, and purchased a spare battery. No dice. Using a another AC adaptor? No luck there, either; so, it must be the phone.
I spend about 10 minutes today idling in the store after I "check in", explain my problem to technical support, got the replacement V3m - for free, despite having been told over the phone earlier that I'd have to pay $50 because of an expired warranty - and charged the battery successfully this time around, with the same ac adaptors/usb cables I had on hand.
I played around with the sound functions on the phone tonight, looking for the "save as ringtone" option for the "ringringring" sound I'd recorded....
The idiots at VZW removed that feature/ability in their latest firmware revision(s), apparently...
I already know Bluetooth is horribly crippled in their phones, but this (for me, anyway) just does it. Great service coverage be damned.
Could anyone here in the Massachusetts area (probably only three of us ) let me know what their experiences were with other carriers - e.g. Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.? Thanks in advance....

PS I'm driving my mother to the hospital for hernia surgery in several hours... hopefully recuperation will be swift and without too many troubles.
PSS Read about my Mother's Day Sunday adventures with the nieces if you dare..
