EA CFO Resigns [March 24, 2008, 4:51 pm ET] - Viewing Comments
Electronic
Arts CFO Warren Jenson Resigns reports on the departure of the chief
financial officer over at EA. Normally we wouldn't really give a hill of beans
about the comings and goings of a bean-counter (no offense intended to anyone
who tallies legumes for a living), but amid all the talk of EA taking over
Take-Two ( story), commentary from
UBS analyst Ben Schachter discusses what he calls the move's "questionable
timing" and a post on
Dubious
Quality (thanks nin) calls the numbers behind plans to acquire Take-Two into
question, saying "If I was CFO, I would have resigned, too."

I'd put money down, and lots of it, that 2K Sports was the sole reason for this purchase. Rockstar is just gravy. I can't remember where, but I had read an article last week regarding this and the comments were from a third party financial analyst.
Without Rockband, EA's numbers for 2007 would have been absolute shit. As it was, EA was still down a significant amount compared to previous years, even with the success of RockBand.
They stated the main motivation here is for EA to obtain a multi-billion dollar franchise (GTA) so they can at least get partial earnings from that franchise in 2008.
I'd be surprised if they view Take Two's sports division as much of a threat to their own. But would be a huge bonus if they could shut them down in the process.

I don't think so. With EA already having NFL rights till 2012, I don't see them benefiting from any more sports titles except Activision's Tony Hawk Series, or Whoever does the soccer games. I could easily see Firaxis and Irrational's team both jumping ship and starting up new companys.
So if you take all of those out all you have left worth anything is Rockstar and GTA franchise. And didn't EA produce the Scarface game which was a GTA clone?
Honestly I hope that the Take Two share holders wait until the games launch before deciding to take EA up on it's offer, but it's looking grim at the moment.

The DubiousQuality post has it spot on.
As I said before, EA buys Take2, they're going to gut it. One of the reasons why EA buying Take2 is such a bad deal for us gamers.

I sent this in this morning, but hasn't been posted and it's related to this, so I'll just drop it in here...

The buzz is that the largest GTA fan forum central was bought by EA on 3/22/08 for approximately $3.4 million dollars. GTAforums.com
While categorized as "rumor", I think it's safe to say that it's no longer rumor seeing as EA has already added their branding to the website.
