CES Gets Game?

Consumer Electronics Association Press Release (thanks FiringSquad) announces that the folks behind the annual Consumer Electronics Show have formed a Gaming Advisory Board "to solicit gaming industry feedback and explore the viability of a West Coast event in late spring 2007 focused on the gaming and entertainment marketplace." This is an admitted attempt to fill the void left by the downsizing of E3, but the feedback I would offer if asked would be to eschew the west coast part of the plan and play to one of the great strengths of the CES and hold their gaming event in Vegas.

Nope never been to either, woulda been nice to gone once to say that I had attended, but waiting hours in lines to watch someone else play a demo isn't all that appealing. But the swag woulda been nice.

But it was just my guess either way.

think it's about getting back to showcasing your company/tech/game rather then having a huge stage with half nakkid women with more silicon then all the PC's at E3 put together doing a dancing number to showcase X game.
Maybe they are getting rid of the extra crap/noise/clutter that has been associated with E3.
You've obviously never been to CES.

CES is a little less like a dance club (or strip club in some cases) than E3, but it's still a similar, entertaining atmosphere.

and replacing it with the extra crap/noise/clutter that has long been associated with CES???

All they've done is replace the E3 Bacchanalia with a CES Bacchanalia. go figure.
Bacchanalia:
1. The ancient Roman festival in honor of Bacchus.
2. A riotous, boisterous, or drunken festivity; a revel

Speaking of the good ol days of computer gaming festivals,
i remember attending the 3rd West Coast Computer Faire in San Fran, back when Robin Williams used to wander around looking at all the games. good times.

edit: er, maybe it was the 2nd Faire in San Jose, seeing as how the 3rd was in LA. Not quite sure since all the brain cells from that time have gone into fuzzy logic mode.

Sides for all you booth babe people, god knows there are alot better looking dancers/women in vegas then some of the pics I've seen of the women they hire at E3. Think of all the poor showgirls

Actually, that's exactly what companies are doing, just moving their resources to other conventions. I'm not sure what the REAL story on E3 closing is, but I really doubt it was related to cost overruns. EA spends far more on TV advertising than it did on E3.

Is it just me or does this all seem retarded?

They got rid of E3 because publishers dont want to spend the money! With E3 gone it's not like they are just going to take that money and spend it on another convention, christ, that was the problem in the first place.

Yeah, Vegas is way better than downtown Los Angeles. It was always the case that downtown L.A. pretty much shutdown after dark and you were either stuck heading to an E3 party or back to the hotel. But Vegas is 24-hours!

Anyone want my surprised look on this one? I could have guessed this would have happened when the E3 announcement came out since it seems E3 has come the way of the GDC.
