E3 Renamed, July Move Confirmed [July 31, 2006, 8:54 pm ET] - Viewing Comments

An update on GameSpot has some details about changes to the format of E3, confirming with ESA president Douglas Lowenstein that the event will indeed move to July, also learning that the name of the expo will be changing to the "E3 Media Festival." A different GameSpot article goes further into some of the causes and effects of this story, describing the pressure from companies like Sony, Microsoft, and EA to cut the costs associated with the show, as well as the impact of a smaller show on the city of Los Angeles from disappointed cab drivers to a hard-to-interpret remark by an attorney saying he thought the city wouldn't "take this lying down." Examining this news is Moving Beyond E3 on IGN (thanks Frans), an editorial covering the plusses and minuses of the changes, while Ten Reasons for E3's Collapse on Next Generation offers their opinions in numerical order.

	NextGen Consoles still don't even have a fucking mouse Gotta agree there, it would be nice to be able to at least HAVE that option. Better yet, allow something like the Nostromo Speedpad and mouse, you don't need ALL the buttons on the keyboard. I own the best Plasma television, best Graphic Station monitors with the highest refresh rates, best PC equipment, a $45,000 car, and a $485,000 house. While we're on the bragging wheel, I'll throw mine out there. I bought my house for $41,000, never paid more than $15,000 for a car (better yet have never bought a "new" car), and refuse to purchase a new plasma TV from a retail store. 	How does cutting down the barrel make the trigger closer? Anyway, there are some console games (mainly shooters) like Halo 2, that I would love to play with a mouse and keyboard. As for them being on a couch, for my budget I'm looking at getting a 360, and probably a HD TV simular in size as the 360 kiosk's to sit on my PC Desk, so range isn't an issue, but if I'm gonna get something like the 360 I want something decent to play it on. Not to mention my Desk Chair is alot more comfy to sit in (except for those RPG games). As for developers having to change the way the game is played? Most FPS have some sort of auto-targeting system and all that I have played to date have the option of turning it off. But overall especially with FPS on Consoles I suck, kinda like how I suck at flying a plane in BF2 without using a Joystick. I would just like the option to do so if I want to.

	A mouse & keyboard would make consoles playable for me...and take a hacksaw or a muffler cutter to the shotgun's barrel so you can reach the trigger more easily.. (the toe move is so awkward)

	yeah there are some 3rd party 'thingies' out there, but why not just support it 1st party? Consoles are all about accessibility. A mouse and keyboard are not accessible and require lots of practice to use effectively. In addition, a mouse and keyboard require a flat surface for use, which does not facilitate console players who like to sit on their couch. Then there's also the issue of design. If mouse and keyboard become first-party standards, game developers will have to design for both gamepads and mice and keyboards. That costs more money.
