Awesome Spume:
Yeah I got 10 tokens too, I didn't get space hack, I tried that and didn't like it much. So yeah, this is first thing I spent the tokens on.
I actually originally bought a dregnin account back in the days of gal civ 1. I found gal civ 1 retail on amazon for pretty good price, bought that, then found out it wasn't much more for a drenin account to get the gal civ 1 expansion. So that lasted just long enough to convert over to total gaming with tokens
Oh also, the 1.0x patch will destroy ships you've made (should be the last time a patch does that, they had to add a version number to each ship design and it didn't have that). So dont go crazy on them yet until that patch.

Starforce won't work without a CD/DVD to scan.
So i guess all those demos with Starforce have been figments of someones imagination?!

That ship looks ace. I've not gotten anywhere like that with my efforts.
I have credits to burn at Totalgaming so this is probably going to be something I get unless the buzz is bad. Looks like I may have to go back and fiddle with GalCiv 2 ship construction though. That being said, the ship construction is definitely bugged when upgrading but I'm confident they'll sort it out by next patch.
Dev, specifically if you were like me and an early TG subscriber you got 10 tokens. There hasn't been anything much worth having to spend them on up til now. To date I've spent 2 on... Space Hack.

The stardock version has ZERO NONE NO protection. Most (in fact all as far as I know) of stardock products have no protection (or very little).
Instead, what stardock usually does (at least for its own games, there may be limited exceptions for other companies games that sign deals with stardock, I'm not 100% sure) for games like galactic civilizations II, etc, is they issue frequent updates that add content to the games. And to get those updates you need a serial number. Thats it. Even the retail storebought version of Gal Civ 2 had NO PROTECTION. And yet in the two weeks since gal civ2 release, they've had 2 patches that ADDED content (such as additional ship components) and improved AI.
I frigging LOVE The ship designing process in galciv2.
Look at this ship someone designed:

Here's a bunch more pics and details about his design proces:
http://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=346&AID=103958
Here's a link to the latest patch changlog (notice the added weapons and the AI improvements), followed by a detailed session report with lots of pics of a game one of the devs played:
http://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx
And of course its got a bunch of good reviews, take a look at the gamerankings site:
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/925349.asp
Anyway sorry I got off topic on gal civ 2, its just a great game from stardock.
I had a total gaming (part of stardock) subsciption from a while back and when they changed over to tokens, I got some added to my account. I just spent 3 tokens to get this Etrom game and it seems decent so far. As far as I can tell there's no protection. And of course its a digital version, so no cd/dvd media protection.
More companies should do this, add content to a released game that requires a legit version of the game, and forgo annoying (only to legitimate customers), system breaking copy protection. Sure this model wouldn't work with some types of games, but I think companies could do this with quite a variety of them.
Or do like Epic does with UT2004 and some other games of thiers, after a year or so release a patch that removes the disk checking copy protection. After that much time has gone by, its mostly gone off the shelves. This message was edited at Mar 4, 06:16. |

Yeah, thanks for those tips, Riley Pizt and Chicken
Looks intresting, here is the webpage of the game.

Hard for me to understand the concept of the game, gonna try finding a preview or a review to help me understand.
Well, I guess I will have to wait for an English review, Google is not handling the Italian very well and maybe why the game description sound odd, due to translations.

Thanks for the headsup, I thought Starforce were only doing media protection.
I'm still sure Totalgaming arn't using it in any current games, and Stardock don't seem the type to use it.

Actually there is a digital distribution version of Starforce too. And it is one of the most if not the most restrictive copy-protection systems of that type available. There is a recent racing game which uses it (I forget the name right now) that won't allow you to play the game for up to seven days if you change your hardware. You can only reactivate on a specific day of the week (it is either a Monday or Tuesday), and of course total reactivations are limited in number.

There's no Starforce on anything from Totalgaming, it all uses their own protection. Starforce won't work without a CD/DVD to scan.
