The Javelin training is really cool.
FWHISHHHHHhhhhhh...... Ka-BOOM!
And the DL is so big because of a bunch of asset changes and etc in the game and a patch would not have been that much smaller than a full install.
Ug. Here we go with the tax issue again. You see, its like this... ah nevermind.

I think I would prefer if the military would spend the money on proper body armor for the troops over there. Proper body armor? We had too much body armor.
Sure, an upgrade to the Dragonskin body armor would be nice. But the armor they give us is more than qualified for the job.

Physical draft for free or psychological draft at a cost. Enjoy the freedom of choice While I certainly dispute the notion that any military advertising is a "psychological draft" since no one is forced to pay attention to it, I think anyone drafted into the military who has been injured or killed would certainly have chosen the latter if given a choice.

If part of our taxes go to fund this game, and the developers pay taxes on their income from working on this game, then are the developers paying part of their own salary? It's the same situation when you collect unemployment, and then have to pay income taxes on it.

It's a sad day when a military needs an advertising budget. Are you kidding? With maybe the exception of countries with compulsory service, there isn't a professional military in the world that doesn't advertise itself for recruits.
I think I would prefer if the military would spend the money on proper body armor for the troops over there. They already are; specifically in the areas of creating denser plates and better protection for the sides of the torso.
The current Interceptor system that the Army uses isn't all that bad, but just too many issues surround it. It was one of those events where the military needed something right now and the solution was rushed to meet that need.
Also if we do Iran next you can expect a draft and we can all play this for real God, I hope not. That's the only way they could possibly keep an occupation force in the country and somehow manage to meet the other military obligations the US has committed to.
Invasion and destruction of Iran's military would pose no problem, it's the little problem of occupation afterward that creates the shitstorm. And in that event, I honestly think we would have the equiavalent to a second Vietnam on our hands.

So let's reinstitute the draft then and be done with it.

No, $.04 of your salary goes to the game, while none of their salary goes to the game. Their .02 goes to the Coast Guard.

Wasn't the last version only an 800ish MB download? They must have added a ton of new stuff to more than double the size.
Just a weird though too. If part of our taxes go to fund this game, and the developers pay taxes on their income from working on this game, then are the developers paying part of their own salary?

Wow, I've been waiting on most of the features of this update for years. Very cool -- however, I won't get to give it a whirl until after I get back from the beach this weekend.
This is definately the biggest release since Special Forces.

Taxpayers aren't paying for this; I thought this issue was settled years ago? LOL! So the money just fell from the sky? Of course taxpayers paid and are still paying for the game. Since the game is free to the end user, the money spent creating, distributing, and supporting it comes from the U.S. military's recruitment budget which is ultimately funded from taxes.

It is a little odd, but they make a VERY good game. So, I give them pass.

Negative. That's 6 million that is part of the Army's Advertising budget. It's 6 Million that could have gone into print advertisements, or tv commercials, but it sure as hell won't go anywhere else. It's not like the US is about to cut it's military spending. Which is kind of my point. It's a sad day when a military needs an advertising budget. It's been happening for years I know, but to turn it into entertainment is a little weird if you ask me.

On July 4, 2002, the United States' Independence Day, the first version of America's Army, named Recon, was released after three years of development and production costs of US $7.5 million. Distributed as a free download or CD it quickly became one of the ten most often-played online first-person shooters. The game was easily available, the gameplay was similar to Counter-Strike, and it had the then brand-new Unreal Engine as well as free servers sponsored by the U.S. Army. The Army currently spends US $3 million a year to develop future versions of the game and US $1.5 million annually for server support.
The Department of Defense raised its spending for recruitment to more than US$2.2Bn, which not only paid for the Army Game Project, but also an entire promotional campaign to polish up the U.S. Army's image.

I guess you are a little low on those figures, lol.
