"Asign items to your favourites with the F key, click Q then hit the number buttons on the highlighted weapons. Now you can use that to switch fast."
Also load up your innate powers and shouts with the F key and utilize them with the Z key. Also read all the books you come across, you don't have to go through them completly just interact and then close them. Some help notch skills and some give quests.
