IIRC, /. had the most comments for 9/11 too. I don't think any gaming events can beat that horrible day.

Well that sentiment is certainly true, but 9/11 is not the largest thread ever here, it was one about the Obamacare website (879 comments). This is followed by the Elite: Dangerous thread, my mom's death, 9/11, and the release of Half-Life 2, which are all the threads with over 500 comments.

When you perform a search, the list under popular threads changes to most comments all-time, rather than the past week.
Thanks Blue! How is your server handling from these top discussions?

Haha, I know... watch out Digg!
Digg? That's old news (thanks v4). Reddit!

Honestly I visited Digg more in 2014 than I ever did at the height of its popularity. It consistently provides interesting and (mostly) well written articles and seems to do so better than Reddit or Google News with no effort on my part required.

I wonder if SC will beat E:D in BN's most number of comments!

I'm not sure, but I think that the record for the longest thread was the 9/11 thread, sadly.

Also, at 814 comments, that one E:D thread has already beaten any single SC thread I know about. It helps when you ship a game.

Great idea Blue. For those that are looking for a few links....

There is Elite on Reddit there are some sub-reddits most notably Elite Traders

Thrudd's tool is used by a fair number of people to find trade routes. I use Elite Rare Trader a lot to plan rare trade routes. Rare trading is a lot of fun and let's you get out to see the galaxy a bit. BTW, if you do venture out, be sure have the best Discovery Scanner you can afford since you can sell the scanned information at starports for some extra credits. Also, you can stack the discovery scanner with a Detailed Surface scanner that will give extra information (and therefore extra credits.

This Ship Configurator is fairly new but can give new players an idea on parts costs as they upgrade. Be sure to pay special attention to the standard insurance once you start buying more expensive ships and/or modules.

Lastly, E:D Wikia is a good general resource.

One other note, the price of HOTAS controllers has gotten to be all over the place lately. Probably due to the demand from people playing E:D. Be sure shop carefully, the Thrustmaster Hotas X I picked up back in November for $50US is appearing in a lot of places for $100US. From reading reddit, the same thing seems to be happening with the more expensive HOTAS's.

Since the general forums here are underutilized, I thought it might be helpful to drop a pointer here to the discussion thread on the news forum about the launch of Elite: Dangerous, since it has remained very active even after dropping off the popular threads list (which only covers the previous week).
