Mass Effect 2 Movie

The Mass Effect 2 Exclusive Reveal Dev Diary on GameTrailers.com offers a look at BioWare's upcoming RPG sequel in a clip carrying this description: "Prepare to be hunted by assassins and hounded by duty on an impossible suicide mission." The clip includes gameplay footage and developer commentary reflecting on what they showed of the game at E3. They go into detail that could be considered spoilery about the game's story and gameplay, including a discussion of more physics-oriented combat, the cover system, heavy weapons, an "interrupt system" for ending tedious conversation, richer locations to explore, and more.

It's not like it really added anything to most games.

I disagree. Jumping adds another layer of player freedom to a game. In Deus Ex, for example, jumping played a very prominent role. At least, it did in my playthrough. I would use my Strength aug to stack crates and barrels really high, then jump up onto rooftops and other places the designers didn't really intend for players to go. I would then snipe hapless enemies with utter glee. In one mission, I was on top of a building filled with enemies. I could have gunned my way through or snuck past them. Instead, I just jumped off the building. Games are all about interaction and choices. The more you have of both, the better the game.

I wonder why developers put "tedious conversation" in the game? Is that a feature?

In Bioware's games, it usually is. Their writers have a tendency to write really prolonged monologues that never seem to end.

Of course it is. Haven't you ever tried to interrupt someone and punch them through a plate glass window 15 stories up? Pretty difficult.

Bioware must have met my ex and realized that "tedious conversation" is a real world phenomenon. I've dreamed of pushing her through a plate glass window to shut her the hell up in the past...

Well now that we know the end of the game, why should we bother playing it?

It's one possible ending.

Why are you all so worried about jumping? It's not like it really added anything to most games. Jumping just made people bounce around like they're on pogo sticks in multiplayer.

Even in a somewhat unrealistic setting, I'd prefer if people couldn't hop around like bunnies.

Also can't recall a AAA game company that doesn't have jump, very bizarre or maybe that has to do with cosolizatiomism, too.

Gears of War didn't let you jump. Alpha Protocol won't let you jump. As games grow increasingly streamlined and automated, you'll only be jump when the game specifically tells you.

Doesn't look too bad, haven't seen much at all of ME2. Sounds like they are fixing a major issue of mine, forced cover. Damn that sucked, survey a rock, cover Stick! Also can't recall a AAA game company that doesn't have jump, very bizarre or maybe that has to do with cosolizatiomism, too.

Sure would like to smack the crap out of, what ever monkeyboy came up with the idea of a cover system....oh wait it was the same genius that killed PC Coop. Do they have any services to Pie someone at Starbucks?

an "interrupt system" for ending tedious conversation

Funny because they promised that in the first ME, and even showed gameplay video with it, but it wasn't in the final product. I hope it really happens this time.
