What is that even supposed to mean, "story driven"? Would the game be a long series of cut scenes? Considering games are about engaging the player, a game by nature can't be story driven. Story isn't a mechanic. So what's that leave in lieu of combat? Puzzles, the traditional "story driven" game fallback? That worked for LucasArts years ago, but I wouldn't expect it to fair well these days.
I guess what it boils down to is...
I love a good story, and a good story doesn't have to involve action. I love Reservoir Dogs and Glengarry Glen Ross. But I don't kid myself into believing that Glengarry Glen Ross: The Videogame would be any good. A great game has to vigorously engage the player, and while story can HELP do that, a game cannot subsist on story alone. |
