The
Total War Blog promises a new patch next week to update
Empire: Total War
to version 1.3, saying the patch is expected on Monday, June 22. The post
outlines what's planned for the patch, which includes multi-threading for
multi-core CPUs, optimizations for single-core machines, multiplayer tweaks, bug
fixes, and 14 free units to replace generic units, "giving each faction a unique
identity on the battlefield." They also offer descriptions of these new units.

but worse than Shogun
I still like Shogun the best. Later games just got so fucking complicated, that every turn started taking two hours. I could start a game of Shogun, have some awesome battles, a few fun minigames, and be done in three hours or so. Start a game of Rome, or Medieval, and it's a two week commitment...
And then all the shit with spies, and missionaries, and revolts, and squalor and ... blegh.
I wish they'd remake Shogun - Mongol Invasion with their current engine. Don't add any of the complicated shit from the others, just remake the game, make battles more spectacular, leave the campaign as it is. That'd be my favorite RTS of all time.
Instead they're just making it more and more and more complex every time. I suppose a lot of people like that, but if I'm playing a sandbox game, I don't want it to take two fucking weeks.
