Atari announces the release of
Ghostbusters: The Video Game in North America: NEW YORK, NY -
June 16, 2009 - Atari, one of the world's most recognized video game publishers,
today announced that the highly anticipated, summer blockbuster title,
Ghostbusters®: The Video Game is now available at retailers across North
America.
Working closely with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and acclaimed development
studios Terminal Reality and RedFly, Atari brings this completely all-new
chapter of the blockbuster Ghostbusters saga to advanced gaming platforms
coinciding with the 25th Anniversary celebration of the film's original
theatrical release. Ghostbusters: The Video Game, based on the smash hit motion
picture franchise, is penned by original Ghostbusters writers and stars Harold
Ramis and Dan Aykroyd and reunites many of the original cast members. In
addition, the game also launches today along with Sony Pictures Home
Entertainment's worldwide debut of the original motional picture on Blu-ray
Disc™.
Featuring the unique blend of humor and fright that established Ghostbusters as
a pop culture sensation, this new chapter of the blockbuster franchise is
available at retailers across North America for the Xbox 360® video game and
entertainment system from Microsoft ($59.99), Windows PC ($29.99), PLAYSTATION®3
computer entertainment system ($59.99), PlayStation®2 computer entertainment
system ($19.99), Wii™ ($39.99) and Nintendo DS™ ($29.99).
In addition to Aykroyd and Ramis, original Ghostbusters Bill Murray, and Ernie
Hudson, and new love interest, Alyssa Milano, lend their voices and in-game
likenesses to the original story set two years after Ghostbusters 2, with
Manhattan once again overrun by ghosts and supernatural forces. The player joins
up as a new recruit with the original team, testing a variety of unique
equipment and gadgets, to track, wrangle and trap a wide range of awe-inspiring
phantasms in an all-new, funny and frightening battle to save New York City from
its latest paranormal plague.

I guess one way around the non-C drive issue would be to buy the Steam version, assuming you have a big enough drive or partition to handle all your Steam installs.
That is pretty bad though. I have often encountered software that installs certain files to C no matter where I install it, but those programs will still install the bulk of the app to the folder I select. That doesn't normally apply to games either (unless they need .NET or something). But from what I've read about this game, this is much worse. I know that it's been a few years since Terminal Reality developed a game for the PC (even a port), but they should know better. |

Tried installing it on my E: drive. No go. Ran installer again, chose easy install. Copied 7 files it put on C: drive into folder on E: drive. Game runs fine from E: now. Pain in the ass, but it works.
The game itself is fun as hell. Blowing stuff up with the proton pack is great. Oh yeah, catching ghosts is fun too. |

Glad things got sorted out there. I also don't much care for installing games in Program Files, or on the C:\ for that matter.
Maybe the developer will make a patch for it someday to add some sort of Multiplayer to it. Probably not |

Well, after attempting to install the game several times on my E: drive I had to reg-edit and rid my registry of everything Ghostbusters related. It wouldn't install on a different drive after I attempted to install it on G: no matter what I did. After cleaning the drive I went with the default C:Program Files which I hate doing, I like all my games on a different drive and folder. The game worked when I stuck to the default installation but what a hassle I went through to get the damn thing running.
After playing the game for a few hours I actually like it quite a bit. It's much better than I thought it would be and the gameplay is original. Having the whole original cast do the voice work helps too. All in all I'd say it's a worthy purchase at $30.00 but I would've definately paid $50.00 if it had multiplayer. This game would be even better playing through it Coop but the PC gets shafted again. At least it's not a PS2 port and the graphics are just as good as the PS3 and 360 version. Threewave should have insisted that the PC version got multiplayer if they still had any love for the PC. They wouldn't be making the multi if it wasn't for the PC dammit! |

After the game installs 10GB of files the installer shuts down saying it was interrupted! Apparently the installer has a hard time distinguishing between C and D drive. I'm going to cut them some slack because we've only had C and D drives since like, 1982 so they obviously need more time. Remember public education doesn't spend much time on the alphabet, nor children's TV shows like Sesame Street.

I thought all of you would get a big kick out of this one... I just bought it for PC despite it not having multiplayer because I let my childhood fandom of the movies get the best of me. After the game installs 10GB of files the installer shuts down saying it was interrupted! I tried reinstalling it several times and the same thing happened everytime. I went to the forums and I'M NOT ALONE! http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=fe840237b03f9d0a373e1087b6dca5f7&t=678514
So there you go, not only did they screw the PC gamers out of multiplayer and give it intrusive DRM it's broken besides
Un-fucking-believable. I guess that's what I get for buying this piece of shit and not accepting the fact that they don't give a fuck about PC gamers and they ship us broken shit.

Already available to download a pirated copy on the Wii a few days ago. The 360 version was available to pirate more than a week ago.
Whatever the way I just wish everybody would stop bitching about this completly overblown non-issue. Trying to make a product like software into a service I have a problem with.

The only DRM Fallout 3 has is a disc check. Nothing else. That's never going to go away.
Actually, once you've done the disc check with Fallout 3 you don't even need the disc in the drive to play it. It's one of the least intrusive games I've seen in recent memory.
OK so it doesn't work with Nero, Alchohol etc - they contain virtual disk emulators. I'd hardly say it's unreasonable that anti-piracy software doesn't like software which can and is regularly used to make copies of games.
I've never had a problem with Nero with Securom installed. |

Playing it now. It's different. You actually have to wrestle and fight the ghosts into the trap. Voice acting and music spot on. Story so far is clever so humorous moments. Murray is his classic self. Akroyd hasn't changed a bit. Z9000
Any indication on how many hours the Single Player game is? Are we talking 5 hours, 10, 20? |

Friend of a friend my ass. Securom fucked up my burning software
Yep, same here. Securom prohibits Roxio from actually BURNING a CD. It will sit there trying to initialize forever. Uninstall SecuRom, Roxio works like a charm.
I finally got around by it installing ImgBurn (which works much better anyways), but Securom definitely breaks shit, completely outside any and all fucking bounds of what it should be allowed to do.
However, Lorcin is one of those "The game publishers LUV US!!!!" apologists, so any actual evidence to the contrary he'll just refute as "You just don't know how to run windows!" or other bullshit bleats like that.
Edit : As for copying datadiscs - the OS can do that or imgburn does it brilliantly for free. Yes it came with the burner and you own it but you must be able to see that it contains features which cause game makers concern. Show the publishers some respect for wanting to protect their investment and change your burning software or give up gaming.
See? How I'd know. Game publishers SHOULD be allowed to just disable your burning software! Those poor publishers!
Damn, are you really this fucking dense? How in your world is it actually LEGAL for someone to disable legitimate software ON YOUR FUCKING COMPUTER? Where do you live, fucking China?
Whatever the way I just wish everybody would stop bitching about this completly overblown non-issue
How about you just stop reading it altogether, and go sit on Atari's homepage and drool over how pretty their logo is?

You know, the program that I legally own that came with my burner for doing legal things like making copies of data CDs and such? Yeah, that doesn't work if I play a game with Securom. OK so it doesn't work with Nero, Alchohol etc - they contain virtual disk emulators. I'd hardly say it's unreasonable that anti-piracy software doesn't like software which can and is regularly used to make copies of games.
